Finally got DLA form sent off for DS who has Aspergers and is 4 years old,

and they have sent two questions back to me

when he started having problems with getting around

(he has a maclaren pushchair still which we use frequently as he either walks at snails pace or bolts off at full speed, gets overwhelmed and upset in crowds/ shopping centres, has poor motor skills/balance/co-ordination, and so on....)

and also when he started to have problems with personal care

(he is toilet phobic, hypersensitive to hair, teeth, nails, etc has to be constantly supervised/prompted/encourage)

so what do I put? Most dcs would gradually become more independent and able in these areas whereas DS never has - how do I phrase it? {headache} You would think it would be obvious to them but no.

Oh i hate the stupid questions they ask, Dd1 (as) is simalar to your ds, i think i put from the age of 3 which is when most children are out of pushchairs, toilet trained and more independent (this is when we noticed dd wasn't like most children her age.

Thanks marne for replying.

Like you say, when their peers are starting to do things, and you are still struggling azlong and supporting them, then you realise that your child is different.

Sigh.

It's so bloody obvious, I honestly think they purpousefully make the process as agonising and time consuming as possible.

I put always for both those irrc. If they've never reached a stage where there were as able as their peers, then they've always needed extra assistance with personal care and mobility.

So basically, you state that he has always had substantial problems and needed extra assistance with these issues compared to other children of his age. Then go on to give examples etc.

Disclaimer: I'm no expert, but did have a successful application.

i think i remember putting much the same Chops "from birth" as DS1 has a life condition.. so therefore it must have started at birth. It was never questioned that a newborn baby cant wash or walk.

Same disclaimer!

Thanks that helps

Keep your fingers crossed for me!
