had a social and communication assesmont on wednesday for ds.I have always suspected asd but they seem to think more developmental delay because he is starting to string words together, has good eye contact, smiled at them although would not get off my knee(he is painfully shy)and he talks at home but not at nursery. There is no hand flapping but he does have obsesssions with certain things.i am so worried about him,i have six kids,he is no 5 and i already have a dd who is severely mentally and physically disabled.Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

What have they said will happen next? Are they going to do any more investigating, or are they just going to wait for a while and see what happens?

I guess with one child who's already needing a lot of care, you're worried about how you'd cope with another?

How is he with his routine being changed all of a sudden? Does he seem worried about bright lights, sudden loud noises, the feel of some clothing or foods, etc?

Don't panic, it's all good, will eventually be one less thing for you to worry about in fact. Means things are going to start getting easier for you, you'll be able to understand his behaviour better. Means he'll get some help or special consideration with starting school etc.
He's still your funny little boy though, nobody's swapped him for an alien. My DS has come on leaps and bounds since starting pre-school with a one-to-one - in one term he now takes adult direction better than most 'normal' kids! Things can only get better Shiny1.
