D & V a month after probable measles

DS probably had measles last month - the swab the GP took could only confirm he was immune, and as he had first MMR then he could be immune due to that. A month on, he starts on D & V, and has had it for a week. Am arranging for a stool sample to be sent off. If DS had any gut problems due to measles, would it 1)include vomiting and 2)start a month after the measles? I am hoping that it's a case of his immunity being low so him picking up a tummy bug rather than that any damage was done by the measles....Because he was barely unwell at all with the measles, I didn't bother giving vitamins/cod liver oil/ probiotics. Would there be any point doing so now?

jg3kids - thanks very much for your reply, and apologies for putting you on the spot with a question it probably isn't fair to ask someone non-medical. I quite understand that you would feel uncomfortable with vax given the history. My DS has language delay and social communication problems - supposedly probably not ASD, but I suspect he probably is on the spectrum. He has some weird stuff going on with relation to milk - addiction/intolerance. So I wanted to be careful about vax.

thanks for the link TClanger. Will not read tonight as not feeling up to it, as I have now come down with the stomach bug from hell (v painful cramps even after ibuprofen)- I am praying it's the same one DS has had, so that he doesn't catch anything further.

I don't think there's any need for a blood test, as having only 1 MMR is probably only 90-95% effective, so it's not that unusual for it not to take with only one dose.

Thanks for your thoughts on DTP. The DTP is more of a dilemma as the diseases are so awful that I'm less prepared to take the risk than with the MMR diseases.

Hi ladies,

TC - no offence taken! vax is a tough issue isn't it? You could ask for a titer test at the docs (not sure if they'd do that) But like you say there are far worse diseases. I asked about DPT at my hospital when dd cut her leg falling down a drain (don't ask....!) and they said in the UK you can't have tetanus without having diptheria and whooping cough too. Interestingly I had the pertussis jab as a kid and got whooping cough from it.
I met a epidemiologist at a biomed conference once and he had 2 grandchildren on the spectrum and he said the only jab he would give to 'any of his grandchildren' under the age of 2 would be tetanus. (this was just his family with their background you understand?)

Pipin - are you doing any biomed at the mo?
