Got a Paed referal for DS

And the waiting is only 2-3 months.

I also got a SALT referal and the wait is about the same, so I amreally chuffed, as I went in expecting to have to fight for one - I dont know why though as our HV is lovely.

She mentioned ASD, and said that that is what she has written in her notes. DH came with us and he was a bit guarded (which is usual - he think its all in my head as he listens to his mum too much), and I think she could sense this, but I am happy with how she is handling things, and am happy with a referal. It would please me so much if DH was right, but I am not sure that he is, and neither is our HV.

I'm glad you're getting a PAed appointment relatively quickly - it sounds a much faster process than for us. At least you will get closer to an answer once you see someone who has the experience to judge your DS's development.

Phew, thank goodness for a short waiting list!!

good luck, frasersmum. let us know how you get on.

my ds has first paed appt next week. (he's 2.8). tbh, we're sure he's asd. sigh...

actually cant wait to get the assess process started now.

That's good news - my ds's paed who we see here in west bridgford is lovely and I know a couple of the others too who are really nice, same goes for the salts and the inclusion service people(they can give him portage support at home and preschool).
I always think the more information the better and the more people you see the better.
It's really good that your Hv is taking you seriously too.
Hope it goes ok.

Frasersmum123 · 02/02/2009 22:07

LuckyLady - HV said she thought that Portage was only available in the city rather than the county - do you know if this is true as we are under Nottinghamshire (live in Carlton.

She also said the paed was Dr Williams - have you heard/experienced her?

It's the inclusion support service (search for it on www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk) that you want - if you're referred you are assigned an inclusion officer that advises you and preschool. They do the same thing as portage under a different name.
I can't remember how mine came to us - I think maybe the paed referred us. We have an assigned 'special teacher' from inclusion support now he's at school that comes to his individual education plan meetings.
Have you looked on www.ppsnotts.org.uk? It lists support groups and other stuff like the maze in arnold which is good to drop into for info.
When my ds1 was younger I went to 'Allsorts' that meets 3rd thurs of month at westbridgford methodist church on musters road- it's a playgroup for preschoolers with special needs run by inclusion officers who know everything about everything really and nice to meet other mums.
I've not heard of Dr Williams - is it the QMC you're going to? A mum at my ds's school is a paed there so I can ask her about her if you like.
Hope that helps.

Im hoping to be seen at Park House, which is in Carlton. The HV seemed to think she would come from Queens.

Thanks for all your help xx

Dr williams toooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thats our paed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

he is very lovely - goes off on a tangent a bit (dont ask me what i know about him guatamala and what he did with the village elders wife!!!!!)... but he is REALLLY REALLLY amenable, if you want a test or referal, hes your man! cos all the professionals respect him, all your referrals get done quicksmart!

Minor drawback - dont expect a label anytime soon, he is extremely reluctant to lable anyone for anything - but that said he will make sure that your DS has every ounce of help available.

Frasersmum123 · 03/02/2009 11:44

Does he come from the QMC?

Im not really looking for a label, I just really want DS to be able to communicate so that he wont be so frustrated. Even if he could learn to point at the things he wants it would be a start!

...... do you know, i have absolutely no idea - i see him at bassetlaw, but i do know that he isnt there full time, he just does weekly clinics there. And i do know that his waiting list is about 2mths or so.

misscutandstick · 03/02/2009 12:18

...re-reading posts (this time with less enthusiasm and more clarity ) one of us seems to be talking about a woman, and the other a man .

But, if we are both talking about a 'Dr Williams' (mine an eldish man), i know that he has 3 grown up daughters, only one in a band-which seems to be doing well (i told you he digresses!!!), and the others 'academics' - its a good possibility that you could be seeing his daughter perhaps? (jumping to huge conclusions here - but certainly not beyond the realms of possibility).

If the above happens to be true (after all, there are many dentist / doctor families out there) then i would assume her to be just as thorough.

Frasersmum123 · 03/02/2009 12:43

The HV said that it was a woman, though she is probably wrong!!!!

I will have to let you know once I get the appointment. I suppose its quite a common name - actuallt DS's dermatologist is also called Williams, though he is a Prof rather than Dr.
