Ladies - me and the family are coming down to Haven Devon Cliffs (near Exmouth) on 1st - 5th June. So wondered if anyone fancied a meet. We could make it to Bristol and/or Wales at the beginning or end of our trip.

Icanseethesea · 30/01/2009 22:15

TotalChaos hope you have a lovely time! We are just a few miles from Devon Cliffs, but I'm not sure if it is our half term. However, any questions on local stuff and I can give you some tips!

TotalChaos · 02/02/2009 11:07

waves to all LOL. Icansee - where's good and not too expensive to eat out? and what's good for a 4 year old to do?

Depends how much you want to spend! The Powder Monkey in Exmouth is a Wetherspoons, and the Clipper is another chain pub, good reasonably priced food, but can't remember which chain! Donato's on the Beacon (Exmouth)is a lovely Italian. Further afield, there is the White Horse at Woodbury Salterton, various places on the Quay in Exeter, especially On the Waterfront.

As for keeping busy, here is one of our favourites and not far from Exmouth. This is right next door to Devon Cliffs, and I am not sure but I think you might get a hefty price reduction as a guest -worth checking. This website could be very useful if you want to go further afield. And of course there's the beach - sand at Exmouth, pebbles at Budleigh (best ice cream in Budleigh - in the world for that matter! - is at the Creamery!)

Hth!!

TotalChaos · 03/02/2009 18:59

thanks very much for the recommendations! our budget is definitely cheap and cheerful!

TC - depending your childs intersts and physical abiliy...
There is a a good play park ( pay a few quid for all day) on exmouth sea front- lots of climbing stuff, big slides, sand its, sit n rides and a fence all the way round with only one gate.
Biton Botanical gardens a few miles inland- about 6-7 quid all day nice garden and tea shop and big out door and indoor play areas, also crazy golf and a train ride.
Decent cliff top walks from devon cliffs to exmouth. sandy bay beach is fine at low tide DO take are not to get cut off at either end tho.
Train ride to exeter is about 3 quid return and runs right by the estury,my boy loves it, lots to look at out the window and its a TRAIN.
Haldon Foret- the other side of exeter, has way marked trails for walking and buggy/ wheelchair users, also play spaces, loos and a tea van ( may have a cafe by June).
Your JUSt going to miss the exmouth festival ( ends 29th May) but check the town councils web site for whats on nearer the time.
Any more clues but what your 4 yr old likes? I pop down to xmouth frequently with boy and his nearly 4 yr old friend K.

TotalChaos · 03/02/2009 21:28

thanks very much UniS, that's very useful. DS likes animals and playgrounds, and to a degree going on public transport. His SN are language related, so we don't need buggy/wheelchair access.

Crealy -theme park- might fit the bill if you want to spend a bit more than not much. has large petting farm bit, theme park rides, big soft play, loots of out door space and play groundy bits. They price kids by height, adults is about 12 quid for the day.

I did think of somewhere obvious for you last night, but have now forgetten it totally. Arrrrr- got it.

A free one (but the tea shop is a bit dear) Sidmouth Donkey Sanctuary. Lots of donkeys gently grazing in paddocks and stables, will put up with being stroked. A maze, bit of a walk round the farm. No playground (at least last year) unless your booked in with a SN group for donkey riding sessions. Small picnic area thats quites nice. Its not a huge day out but can be combined with the beach at sidmouth.

Bricks · 06/02/2009 20:38

I am allowed to join - I live in Bristol

TotalChaos · 07/02/2009 08:44

UniS - thanks loads for your detailed suggestions. The donkey sanctuary in particularly sounds perfect!

Bricks - the more the merrier. Now we merely need a date, time and place
