DS1 (12) has finally had a few successes recently doing poos on the toilet, and we are delighted and proud of him.

Does anyone know any toilet training programmes or good tips to build on this success, above and beyond regular toiletting, praise and special seating?

No, but very well done to DS and to you. Hope it continues x

have you read this book?

it is quite useful, although it hasn't helped with dd1's particualr issues (which are tied in to drinking), but it does go through quit a few issues/routines etc

and yes, very well done to your ds

Yes, it is a great milestone and life would be a lot easier (and a lot less messy and whiffy) if he wasn't doubly incontinent! Thanks for book suggestion silverfrog. will add that to my list.

Oh well done! I haven't anything useful to add but whilst researching nonfrightening bedwetting alarms I came across one www.malem.co.uk (ultimate 1 + record) that can have a recorded message or personal recording (eg waterfall or music)to remind child to use the loo when wetting. I wish I had found it earlier but am happy to say ds (9 s/mld)is hopefully dry now by day - it has been a long haul! I still read to ds on the loo to encourage a daily habit though!

Well done to your ds!! Not sure if they still ahve them but fledglings did do some friendly toilet packs.

& i think had some sn reward systems too!

Well done DS! I am about to start working with a new client who is a little older than your DS and this will be one of my aims with him. I once succesfully trained an 8 year old, but he had good communication skills so I think this time I will have a real challenge, wish me luck!

Thanks everyone. Will be looking up those products. Let me know how you get on, supportman. Our recent success has, I think, been helped by giving our son lots and lots of praise. I am going overboard with praise at the moment, and it seems to be working for his behaviour too. I just keep telling him how well he is doing with absolutely everything, except when he is hitting and otherwise misbehaving. It's simple but I don't think any professional has ever mentioned trying this intensive praise. I'm going to go onto bribes next.
