Carnosine and ASD - any experiences to share?

DS1 is ASD and I have been trying to read up on any supplements that may help him - his ability to concentrate is practically non existent which causes him terrible problems in school and is enormously frustrating for all those trying to work with him. There is quite a lot of information out there on the benefits of EPA fatty acids and also know people who have used them. Less info on Carnosine - does anyone have experience of this?

We have tried various supplement for Ds. With some of them we had good results with others it was hard to tell. ASD can be fluctuating so its always hard to know if Ds is having a good/ bad week or he is benefiting from a supplement. I stopped all supplements a while back and there were not any bad effects. I then added back in fish oils and calcium which seems to have effected Ds stomach issues which up until then seemed much better. The fact is I dont know what worked and what didnt except transfer factor where the results were very clear DS always had illness before taking it and now he has stopped he is again constantly ill. I need to get some more TF but I cant find it at the moment. Also putting Ds on GFCF diet and taking enzymes had an hugely positive effect on Ds diarreoh and other health issues which I have have posted about before. We have tried carnosine but I cant remember any noticeable benefit but then every child is different so what works for one will not work for another. However, I have to say whilst taking supplements DS symptoms improved a lot- his stims reduced right down concentration and eye contact improved his "fuzzy" days disappeared but nothing brought any lasting speech. We were told that Carnosine would do that. To be honest I do know that something was benefiting Ds but I was getting a bit lost with it all hence the cutting down to basics. DS is still doing very well except the stomach issues and illness which may be down to Ds sneaking food he is not supposed to have and the reintroduction of calcium and fish oils. I want to see a nutritionist that will be able to put us back on track.

Sorry for the rambling reply.

It is a bit confusing. We're just introducing one at a time. At moment trying the fish oils thing - only been a couple of weeks so not long enough to tell yet. I'm a bit scared of restricting his diet as he eats so poorly but I have heard good things about GFCF diets. We have opposite toileting problems though - he is often constipated though we think this has more to do with his fear / intense dislike of going to the loo rather than his diet. He holds it in as long as he can and often then has explosive accidents!!
