Does anyone know whats available in the market for special needs buggies. I have been given 2 choices from OT but want to know what other options there are to use with vouchers. My 16 month old needs head support and trunk support. Help !

Do you need a SN pushchair for a 16MO?

chicalatina · 24/01/2009 13:45

yes I do. He's rapidly growing out of his standard buggy but with no full head support yet need SN pushchair.

Aah okay sorry. Just assumed would be able to use normal pushchair.

My friend has the Major Elite for her DD but she is 5. Is really good though she has problems with her legs so not sure what it would be like for top support.

There is a mountain buggy one too not sure what thats like though.

glitteryb6 · 24/01/2009 14:11

what choices were you given?

some i have seen with decent head support are

Ormesa bug
Thomashilfen jazz easys
Delichon moon buggy
Otto Bock kimba spring
Tomcross county stroller

not sure what ages they are suitable from though?

here is a good link for pics and more info

kimba spring, jazz easy and tom cross are what is normally offered... i've known a couple who were offered a bug but not many... have you got your appointment through? they should assess what is needed...
what are the two you have been offered?

glitteryb6 · 24/01/2009 19:37

it must depend on where you are then?

up here bugs are ten a penny, there are a few jazz easys but not many of the others.

madwomanintheattic · 26/01/2009 11:53

ah, the postal lottery

generally it is whatever's cheapest lol.

chicalatina - can you use a head support in the interim until your sn buggy arrives? or are you doing the propping with rolled towels thing?

chicalatina · 31/01/2009 20:18

Been offered Tom cross and the chassis for R82 as we are also getting the R82 as a feeding chair and the chair is transferable across both frames. I assume they are trying to reduce the cost by just having one chair with two frames but its not practical !!

I'm desperately trying to test out a jazz easy but cant get my hands on one till march. The distributor Tendercare cant get to our area till then. Does anyone know another distributor?

Doing the rolled towels thing at mo....

tendercare is the only uk distributor for the thomashilfen jazz easys.

it was the first one we had and it looked fab! it is however very heavy, as most of these buggys are and i didnt find it as easy to fold/take apart as the bug which was our second buggy, after the jazz easys broke!

the part that moves to allow it to tilt in space is made of plastic and sheared off leaving the buggy backrest only attached at one point. whether it was defective or not i dont know but ours only lasted 5 months and i lost confidence in it after that.

the bug is much more sturdy/easier to take apart and they do a mini bug which would be suitable for your sons age group.

all these buggys are very large too so do check boot space in the car as i had to change my car as they wouldnt fit!

DD has the otto bock kimba spring and Maclaren Major, Kimba spring is very big and heavy to lift. Maclaren is so light and small. (Self funded both) as we get wheelchair from wheelchair service.

chicalatina · 03/02/2009 13:11

glitteryb6 you mention the mini bug - who is the supplier for that?? ;0)

its quite a good system, someone at ds's nursery once took her dd's bug seat on a flight instead of a car seat!
