How do you find time to do everything?

I'm really struggling to find enough time to do everything with the dd's. Dd1 goes to school full time now at main stream (up the road), Dd1 goes to sn playgroup on mondays and thursdays (15 miles away). My neighbour helps out with taking dd1 to school on mondays and thursdays so i can get dd2 to playgroup. As from friday i am starting the early birds course (2.5 hours a week for 10 weeks). Dd2's playgroup want her to go to main stream playgroup a couple times a week on top of going to sn playgroup.

I feel like im being pushed into getting dd2 into playgroup, dd2 has a review in 2 weeks at sn playgroup and they want a date for starting ms playgroup and they want someone from the group to atend. The problem is the playgroup runs from 9am-12am, i need to be up school with dd1 at 9am as well as at playgroup (10 miles away) with dd2, i can't put on my neighbour anymore than i already do and i kind of think its unfair on dd1 as she enjoys me taking her to school.

Life just seems hectic and because i have given up work dh thinks i do nothing all day .

So how do you all manage to get everything done?

It's not really a time issue though, it's a logistics issue - and having children at two different schools that start at the time is very difficult as you can't be in 2 places at once. Can you not just take DD2 to playgroup late?

Mitchell81 · 21/01/2009 13:02

I was going to also suggest taking DD2 to playgroup late. I have the same problem at the end of the day. DD transport drops her off at home at 3pm and I need to pick up DS1 at 3pm. So have arranged the transport to pick her up from school 10 minutes later so I can then pick up DS1 and be home in time to meet DD.
Hope you find a solution. Life is never simple is it???

If i drop dd1 off at 9am it will take me 20min + to get dd2 to playgroup (because of traffic) so dd2 will only have 2.5 hours at playgroup (by the time i have driven home it will be time to go and get her again). Im trying to hold off sending her until April, then my course will be out of the way (i will have an extra day) and dd2 will be funded.
Her playgroup have been great but it feels like they are putting presure on me to put her into this playgroup, they phoned the playgroup to see if they would take dd before even asking me (its not the playgroup i would have chosen), i was thinking a nursery would be more flexable.

I hope dd2 will be going to MS with dd1 nexy year, if she has to go to the sn school it will be a lot more running around.

can you not find your own MS playgroup nearer home? It seems very tough to expecvt you to keep travelling all that distance 4 times a week.

Marne · 21/01/2009 13:52

I was hoping i would have more time so i could look for a playgroup/nursery as i wanted her to start after her 3rd birthday but her sn playgroup seem to want it sorted out asap. Im not sure if they want dd to eventually move to ms full time and not go to sn anymore, which i hope isn't the case as dd needs 1 on 1 and SALT (which she gets at playgroup). Sadly our local village playgroup closed down 2 years ago so e have nothing close .

If you are not happy then don't send her to the other playgroup, they shouldn't be forcing it. And I agree wait for the funding.

I think i will have a word tommorrow, im worried i'm not doing whats best for dd2, i know ms would be good for her but i also fear the lack of attention she will get compared to sn. Also the playgroup uses the local park to play in which is next to a river, i'm worried as dd tends to run off (i know i'm being over protective). The playgroup has no exerience of ASD and have never used PECS which is her only form of comunication.

People with no experience of ASD and PECS.Hmm,yes, that would bother me.On the other hand, sometimes getting someone out of the SN bubble is good. Go with your heart Marne (and if/when you get a statement, ensure that a minimum of the 2 day official PECS training is minmum requirement for anyone supporting your child. It needs to go into section 3.

I think I'd want to wait until she was 3 to sort another playgroup. I can see they might want to get her used to a mainstream setting before school but I would share your safety concerns. Can you say you would like to leave things as they are until she is 3 and in the meantime look around for other options?

Regards school, if your dd2 does go to the SN school then she may be eligible for school transport?

ChopsTheDuck · 21/01/2009 14:31

if she isn't even 3 yet, it seems to be rather pushed.

I'd be worried about the river too, esp if the school don't have any ASD experience at all. ds1 ran off a couple of times before the school finally accepted how flighty he is.

Marne · 21/01/2009 14:46

I think they seem to forget how old she is as she looks a lot older , i didn't send dd1 to playgroup until a year before she started school.

I spoke to her portage worker last week and she did say that she would make sure that dd would have a 1 on 1 with her at all times and she would visit her twice a month. I just worry as dd2 is so easy going people tend to forget she's there but she still tends to put things up her nose and in her mouth so she needs to be kept an eye on IYKWIM.
