thanks to the support the ladies gave me about dd1s possible AS traits.
Her teacher has said she would like to refer her onto school nuret to get dd assessed.
So what happens now? does school nurse refer to ed psychologist? or cam she still say no? How long does it all take? What info do i need to gather, if any.
thank girls

Lisa its regional tbh

TRhe best way in my experience to bypass the school stuff and speed things up is to go to GP and ask fro referral to a PAediatrician

school seem pretty on the ball here. I only spoke to her about it on friday and referal to school nurse will be made today. I know assessments are normally done via child development centre but guess has to be health referral. Im in herts btw, if that helps anyone with advice.

Hi Lisad. Don't know if this helps but when I was concerned about DD I contacted School Nurse myself who then referred her to Paed who then requested Ed pysch evaluation. She is now in process of being statemented. From contacting school nurse to where we are now has taken approx 18 months!

hmm wondering if its better to use dh private health insurance for it!

In the past MN posters with a private dx have struggled to get LEA and NHS bods to accept a private DX; the LEA is not obliged to.

But for your own peace of mind, it is possible to see paed privately. We did with DS (7) who was diagnosed with Asbergers. We stayed in the NHS system also and eventually they diagnosed ASD (about 18 months later!!) Although the diagnosises were slightly different, I still felt better that a paed had assessed DS and acknowled that my cocerns were real! You don't have to tell the NHS or LEA about your private diagnosis if you don't want to....but as clarissimo said, it's unlikely that you'd be able to access help for DS in school on the basis of a private diagnosis.

well had a call form school senco today, she has spent all week trying to get hold of school nurse only to find shes on long term sick, as is her cover!! SENCO suggested I see GP for referal instead as shes worried it might take too long.
