Another DLA question!

Have just received a letter telling me about our claim for DS's DLA. He has AS and has been awarded middle rate care and low rate mobility. On the letter it says that he is entitled to this from 3/1/09 to 25/7/14 (the day before his 16th birthday). Does this mean that I don't need to renew it in a years time? I was under the impression you had to fill in a renewal every year but I can't find any reference to this on the letter.
It only took them 2 weeks to process the claim - shame it took me 6 months to fill the form in!!!!
Thanks

When I was first awarded DLA the claim ran from DEC 07 to JUNE 09. I was sent renewal pack in DEC 08. Doesn't answer your question but I too was under impression it was reviewed every year. Am clueless to whether there are exceptions?????

It depends, its set with each claim

ds3 was a year at first; then until 16 (but we need to reapply for changes as he's now ay mobility age)

ds1 has his done every two years

SO does the fact it says he's entitled to it until his 16 birthday mean its set until then?

I hope so as if I need to renew in a year I had better think about starting the next form soon !!!!!!!!

Yes, as long as nothing changes iyswim.

wow, til 16 is good.

I thought it was yearly too, but ds1 has his awarded until his 9th birthday, so 3.5 years.

Brill!! I only filled the form in because I was told to, I never thought we would be entitled anything! The extra money will make a huge difference though. Best not tell DS or he will be wanting a pocket money rise!

Ds dla was awarded till 2017 (the day before his 18th birthday I think) and I had assumed we would not need to revue unless there is a change. I thought that was what it meant. It does say that they may review things from time to time and we must inform them of change.

DS1's dla was awarded at 2, renewed at 5 and again at 10 when it was turned down. I got it reinstated which took a year. Then it was renewed again at 16 and we have just had a pack through as it is due for renewal again when he's 21 in July. He has an untreatable congenital condition which is not going to get any better and may possibly get worse with age. I don't know if this is significant but I have sent copies of letters from doctor which states this since he was turned down and reawarded at 10yrs. DS's condition is rare and I doubt most dla assessors have heard of it.
