Well, saw the OT today and DD2 is having a development surge at the moment. Literally on Saturday she just started doing things she had never done before, so the OT wants to see what she does and then wait for her to get as good as she's going to get before introducing a new technique. Otherwise, we won't know what the improvements are due to, she also said often you get negative effects in the 1st 2 weeks of therapeutic listening before you get better, so didn't want to start this whilst DD2 is having this surge.

So the up shot of it all is, we will start this in about 3 weeks or maybe a month. I will let you know though xx

Have to point out ladies that very little solid evidence for these sorts of interventions.

mumgoingcrazy · 21/01/2009 19:42

Thanks IS, I will post again once we start. The OT still thinks DD2 will benefit from it so it's definately going to happen. I'll let you know.

TC, what is mims? Also, what is involved in your sensory diet? Good luck with it, it's quite exciting all the therapies for SPD. I'm definately on a high at the moment.

mumgoingcrazy · 21/01/2009 19:45

IS, ours is NHS OT.

Moondog, I know you are right, therapeutic listening is quite new from the US but our OT would be monitoring us closely and guiding us through it. We won't be left to our own devises. To be honest, I'm willing to try anything if it helps DD2.

improvingslowly · 21/01/2009 19:54

won't know whether it does or does not work until you try it ...

Mum,I understand desire to try out everything and think it is a good idea to keep an oppen mind. [smlie]
Sorry, hope you don't think I was trying to rain on your parade.Just want to stress that there are no magic cures.

moondog · 21/01/2009 21:43

Have lost ability to type.Gruelling aerobics session to blame!

mumgoingcrazy · 22/01/2009 19:27

Moondog, no I don't think you are trying to rain on my parade at all, I know you are right in that there is little solid evidence. I do however have an awful lot of faith in our OT, I really do think she is fab and seriously knows her stuff. She has tried therapeutic listening with a lot of other children and had great results. She has said it may have negative effects but this is why she's monitoring us closely so we can stop if this happens.

I know there's no magic cure but it's very hard not to get your hopes up when something like TL is offered to you. DD2 is actually doing very well by herself at the moment so I'm very optimistic all round.
