I have been contacted by the child development clinic to make an appointment for an assessment for the statement. I dont really know what to expect. DS has been to the CDC before when he was diagnosed at age 2 but that was just interview and observational play. Anyone got any advice or ideas what to expect?

Make sure you show the proposed statemnt to SNAP before you sign anything.

It must be specific and quantifiable. No vague terms.

Visit will involve professionals asking you lots of questions and observing/interacting with your child.

Make a list of things you want to discuss/ask about beforehand as it is easy to forget in the heat of the moment.Ideally, take along a calm friend to take notes or observe and support you.

You will need to pay particular attention to parts 2 and 3 in the document. They need to be on the money - i.e accurate and with no woolly terms as Moondog correctly states. You need both definitive and quantifiable provision.

Run parts 2 and 3 past IPSEA as well; they are very good at statements and what they should actually say. Another point of contact if you cannot get hold of IPSEA is SOS;SEN.

Nothing about language or communication should be anywhere but sections 3. Contrary to popular opinion, SALT is the responsibility of the education authority, not the NHS and it is NOT a non-educational need.
