I received the following in an email today from a SN co-ordinator locally

"The Family Fund
Does your child have a disability and are you in need help funding a household item or in need of a holiday?

The Family Fund Coordinator would like to hear from you. The fund hasn't received as many first time applications as they would have expected for this financial year, and also not as many from 16 years olds so this has been extended to 17 years old as well.

Please contact the Family Fund for information on applying for a grant - conditions do have to be met such as, financial situation, severity of disability and if you have received a grant from the Fund in the last 12 months.

Families can contact the Family Fund directly for an application form.

I sent my first ever application on Monday

Fingers crossed we get atleast one of the things we have asked for!

cherrymonster · 14/01/2009 22:35

i sent my first application about ten days ago. do they pay you for the thing they think would be best or do they award for all the things you ask normally? i have had no experience of them before, my mate gave me the website address and said they might be able to help out!

i applied for this on the advice of social services who said that although my dh earns just under 25k they would take into account the fact that after tax etc we are on less than the 19k limit. we got refused we only applied to get DS a new bed and decorate his room which he has trashed in his meltdowns. Yet my friend who Dh earns 19k exactly (and yes i know he also pays tax!) got a huge trampoline, new washer and dryer, funds for decorating 3 bedrooms and also got money to have a new bathroom fitted. She gets this every year and kids get their rooms done every year. Seems abit odd to me.

Sorry I have no idea about how they allocate money or anything to do with it, just I got that email and since they seemed to be down on applications I thought it might be a good time to go for it if anyone had been thinking about it.

hi bonkerz, does you dh do overtime as mine did but they dont count anything thats on pay slip as overtime, even if its regular overtime so if thats the case may be worth applying again??

plus they only ever give for a maximum of 3 things so my guess is your friend claims the washer dryer (provided direct from comet i think it is) but can only ask for that every 3 years i think it is as they give you a warantee with it so cant ask for it again til that expires. also maybe they asked for money to decorate dc's room and spent it wisely and got enough for all rooms??

BONKERZ · 15/01/2009 14:43

Dh does overtime lots but doesnt get extra money for that! As for friends, i have been there when the agent comes round to fill in the forms with friend and she has had over £1500 every year for various things, she put down they needed a new trampolline when they already had one and instead used the money to pay for a romantic weekend to paris leaving kids in respite for weekend. Im not saying she doesnt deserve these things im just bitter and twisted that because dh earns above the cut off we get no help and my friend whos dh is on the cut off gets help they dont really need! it all seems odd to me. Regardless of income having a child with extra needs and we cannot meet all those costs hence ds is on a mattress in a room that looks like it has been bombed!
