Did anyone else see this?.

I thought it was interesting, would have liked the Headteacher at my DS's school (what the heck all the staff there!) to watch this. No nurture group in my DS's school - and it shows.

What did you think?.

Didn't see it - but will try the C4 catch up later on my laptop. Looks v. interesting. The good thing about the subject, is it's 'out there'.

Let you know what I think ... for what it's worth (currently working as an assistant in primary school).

I'm not convinced all that much HAS changed in 30 years. There is still only an AVERAGE of one or less disruptive child per class, the figures they were lobbing about last night didn't suggest EVERY class has disruptive kids. Certainly there were some at my school 30 years ago. I suspect at times I was one of them. I probably would have benefited from a nurture group.Come to think of it, I DID benefit from a small group, taken out of main class, given time with intensive help, wasn't called a nurture group in those days, twas the remedial class.
Big difference now may be that kids who 30 years ago would just have been excluded permanently are not being excluded now.

Nurture groups are a fantastic idea for the child who just needs a bit more space and time to be a child with problems. rather than just a child who has to conform and learn in the same way as the rest.

I thought it very interesting that the school in that prog who did not have a nurture group was the school who felt they had so many kids with behavior issues that it was better for them to put a behavior support worker in EVERY class plus extra floating workers and family workers. Now THAT was a school with a lot of kids and families facing problems. Their system seemed to be working for them , though I found it uncomfortable watching.
