Bit of background.
J is 10 with AS. He has been out of school for a year and is 'educated' at home by the LEA. He has 2 hours a week with a tutor and 2 hours a week with a support worker playing games etc!
He is very anxious about leaving the house, struggles hugely with new places, new people, routine change and is very demand avoidant.
He is cognitively very able. I am told that he is not falling behind yet, but is obviously not achieving his potential due to his limited education.
The reason for my post is because he is due to take his SATS in May. I (wrongly) assumed because of his issues he wouldn't be taking them, but have just learnt that he has been booked into take them at the EBD school where he has never been before about 4 miles away.
There is just no way this will happen the way J is at the moment. A brief conversation with the person in charge of his tutoring implies that they are quite inflexible about the SATS (ie he won't be able to take them at home etc), and that he will be expected to take them.
Does anyone know where I stand on this. Can I opt him out?
