SN children

Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

Anyone managed to get their child with AS into a sn/private secondary school?

Much to dd's schools disgust I have decided against a unit or ms school. It just won't work and I feel a smaller environment will be better for her.
Has anyone else managed this. We won't get in on academic grounds so am hoping to push the emotional/sensory/social needs.

If you can prove that nowhere else will meet her needs (the ones on the Statement in Part 2) then they have to look at all the options, including private ones.

IME though there will usually have to be really huge problems in a mainstream setting first though e.g. major violence, meltdowns, bullying, school refusal and I don't know your dd's situation.

The other consideration for girls is that ASD schools tend to be very male so the LEA might whinge about peer group.

But if mainstream can't meet her needs, by law they have to give you a school that will. Is this for transfer next Sept.? When's the transition review? Try to get it ASAP so that you can get in the Tribunal queue if they decide to be arsey.

Lots of people do manage this so it's not unheard of. Good luck x
