Ds seems to have burst his fundo!

ds has had a cold which developed into a really bad hacking cough, during which he was bringing up small quantities of milk from his stomach past the fundoplication, doc said this was normal with a bad cough and it was nowhere near as bad as it used to be.

the other night i lay him on his bed and he puked up loads of dark stuff, looked like "old" brown blood, wasnt too worried as it wasnt fresh red blood and to be honest i was half expecting it with the coughing, needless to say he is now back to the projectile vomiting which doesnt stop till his stomach is empty.

so we got a whole 6 puke free weeks out of the fundo

ho hum back to square one then!

I know little about the technical details but what a nightmare, you wouldn't think that a fundo could "burst" so easily. Are you going back to the docs with him tomorrow?

feelingbitfestive · 21/12/2008 21:03

Poor beautiful boy (and poor you). What do they do now. Can they do it again? What a disappointment. He was doing so well xx

glitteryb6 · 21/12/2008 21:16

before we had it done doc wasnt sure if it was reflux or dystonic spasms that were causing the projectile vomiting.

he said if it was the spasms then there was no point doing the fundo as it would slacken off/burst, but if it was reflux then the fundo would fix it, after a pH study showed he had silent reflux they decided to do the fundo, never really considered that he might have both!

i'll phone the hospital tomorrow and let them know, theres been no more blood or anything and as i understand it its only a few stitches holding the fundo together so the blood would just have been from then becoming undone.

in reality if coughing/spasms can cause it to burst after only 6 weeks its probably not worthwhile putting ds through another op to get it redone

phoned the hospital this morning, they are going to arrange a contrast swallow to have a look and see whats happened, with a follow up clinic apointment.

dd's doc says fundos come undone all the time. Its why he didn't recommend one for dd.

yep alsorts been silver nightrated again to

needmorecoffee · 23/12/2008 16:15

I was told ranitidone was for acid reflux, not food reflux.
How long after the op did granulation start glittery? We've not seen any yet but I keep waking and expecting that it will start.

glitteryb6 · 23/12/2008 20:58

about 2 weeks i think it was?

to be honest its came and went a few times so it'll probably come back again.
not sure how long this goes on for though if its a permanent thing you have to keep on top of or if it goes as the wound heals? We'll need to find someone whose had theirs for years and ask!

Yeah ds has "significant" acid reflux according to the pH study, he hadnt been on any reflux meds for about a year but in the weeks before his op, after the pH study, we had restarted the domperidone and ranitidine and he wasnt sick at all so it must have been doing something, although to be fair he can go months without puking then puke 4 times a day for months after that...no pattern to it! i think the dystonias has got more to do with it to be honest.

no pattern to the sleeping either, im sitting here thinking it would be nice to ONLY qualify for the middle rate care.....i'd gladly give back the £20 extra a week for a decent nights sleep!!

god, im usually quite upbeat about things but im just sooo tired at the mo

My friend has a 20 year old DD with a fundo - so she will have had it for years - I can e-mail her to ask stuff - what do yu want me to ask - just about granulation or any other stuff?

glitteryb6 · 23/12/2008 21:30

thanks tc! does she have a button or a tube? and does the granulation go away eventually?
also has her fundo ever needed redone? thanks!
