Registering as disabled - what are the benefits?

Just scrounging for more discounts really. Found a local thing that offers discounts for registered disabled children but wondered what that actually means? Is it different to proving receipt of DLA? If so, would Aspergers count?

our council gives us a little pink card. But no-one has ever asked for it. various places let carers in for free but given dd is in a wheelchair its not like we wouldn't be believed. But it would be useful for an invisible disability I imagine.

Ah we already get mid-rate DLA and I will get Carer's Allowance next year too. But is that different to being 'Registerd Disabled'?

As I understand it, 'registered disabled' is an old system no longer in use, unless council's have their own register. our council does have one, but I'm not sure it carries any oficial weight beyond anything you would be entitled to as a DLA claimant, anyway.

Free panto tiickets are a benefit here, and access to sports clubs etc via the newsletter

DS1 has AS/ HFA and gets DLA at the higher rate so yes you can cer6tainly apply, contrary to what people are told you don't need a DX, just evidence of their care needs (which is handy, as Paed tells me 60% of kids in our rea never get a dx)
