Has anyone been to the dyscovery centre?

Hi I'm wondering about taking my ds to the dyscovery centre. We have a dx of DCD and joint hypermobility but we think he has overlapping traits of either Aspergers or ADD. We don't have a Statement yet and we are not getting very far with our paediatrician with regard to DCD+. I'm just wondering whether further assessment at the dyscovery centre would give us more insight, more evidence for a statement, more ideas on what to do to help him.

We went several years ago with Ds2 who is now 7. I think he was about 3 at the time. He has no diagnosis but possibly autistic (certainly some traits), dyspraxic, speech and language problems. We went mainly to see the SALT there as I was hoping that she would be able to offer some insight into how his dyspraxia (which is really very severe) might be affecting his speech and language and because I was finding it very difficult to get any support from NHS SALT here. I was also having no success in getting a diagnosis of DCD or dyspraxia. The Dyscovery Centre were also reluctant to look at diagnosis since he was delayed in other areas and also because they believed that he might still catch up by himself. Tbh I have been told this several times along the way and felt it was ridiculous.

I have to say it wasn't very useful to us. The SALT didn't do a formal assessment, although she said he had a speech sound disorder. She wrote a very short report and gave me some suggestions of things to do with him. She followed it up with a couple of phone calls and promises of long-term support and programme but nothing really materialised. It was quite expensive.

However we are a long way from Cardiff and it would have been difficult to do regular visits. I don't know what the physios / OTs etc are like and also it might have changed since we went.

Can I ask where in the country you are? I know a good private OT in Yorks, and in Peterborough also. I think there are a few private OT practices specialising in dyspraxia, it might be worth considering them as well - try googling OTIP.
