CEREBRA TRIKE

I have just been told by Cerebra that they are happy to make a trike for ds1!! which means that this will be the first summer since he was tiny that he will have something to play on in the garden. (weather permitting!!) Anyway, Cerebra dont charge for the help they offer but in order to make it cost effective they want to make more than 1!! They would like everyone who wants one to contact them at [email protected] or tel 01792 483688. You have to be a member of Cerebra to request their help but they also have lots of other services which are useful to parents of SN children-they have a sleepservice, parent to parent contact, holiday house (booking for 2010!)lending library etc. www.cerebra.org.uk

Hi, can you give me a bit of an idea about what the trike would be like? my dd is 2.11 and has cerebral palsy, we have been trying to get funding for a special trike from Quest 88 but it's over £1000 and we've only got a pledge of £200 so far. She needs something with waist support and also pedals at the right angle to give her a fighting chance to be able to pedal. It would be great if we could get something sorted. Thanks for the info.

The trike they said they would make is a ride on type just for the garden (similar to a toddler toy but bigger)-its not a 'bike' trike if you know what I mean. There are a few charities and organisations that fund the trikes you are after including Cerebra (they like to fund trikes), The Cauldwell Trust, Children Today, family fund, The Variety Club and there are loads more. Cerebra and Children Today are probably the best ones to approach. They need a letter from school/pysio or OT etc to prove it is beneficial to the child and also a quote for the trike. I dont think these 2 are means tested if it helps. Quesst 88 are good but have a look at Tomcat Trikes, they are brilliant, better than most I have looked at and you get a personal service. (sorry no links) If you want a ride on trike for the garden I am sure that the design center at Cerebra can come up with supports and the right pedals etc. They were really helpful when I spoke to them and they were disapointed that they wouldnt be able to do it in time for christmas!!! Not sure if the latest bulletin is on line but it may be worth having a look at the website in the first post. Hope it helps

thank you - I need to have another look at funding. Unfortunately it is the means testing that counts us out as they ask for income but not expenditure and we have really high outgoings etc as we had 2 decent wages before leaving work to look after dd. I'm not moaning, I know there are others in greater need, it's just tough to find the funding if you appear to have a 'decent' income.

Hey Hangingbaubles.. I applied to Children Today and they took into account outgoings - basically if you haven't got a spare few hundred quid plus at end of the month you should get the funding.

Check out my profile cos I'm going to put a pic on now off dd in her tomcat trike.

All in all took a couple of months to get - 1 month for funding, 1 month for building

thanks, I'll have a look at children today.

I've just last week applied to Children Today for a Tomcat Tiger for ds, costing £1555 because of all the extras he needs but I'm putting £700 to it....fingers crossed!

Woooozle100 · 13/12/2008 22:33

ooh best of luck glittery. That'll be a nicwe late christmas pressie! Yeah think they only fund £850. We put some too. DD has got a tiger. Its ace. Shame she hasn't had much use of it but hey ho - she will. Its great how they 'grow' with them isn't it?

Hope you get some joy form them also Hanging..

When we needed funding for our trike we approached The Family Fund and a local radio station who raise money for local disadvantaged children.
