DD seems hypersensitive to some noises and gets quite anxious.Usually stuff like drills(Were having DIY done),hand dryers, food mixers and so on.Any ideas whether this is common in children with abnormal brain development, and what can I do to help her (Other than avoiding said things as much as possible)TIA X

Hi, my dd is sensitive to sounds, she has ASD but i have heard that alot of children with sn's are sensitive to sound. When i take dd2 out i put a hat (that covers her ears) or ear muffs on her, this helps lessen the sound.

My ds (asd) is sensitive to noise. I got him a pair of peltor kid headphones on ebay. I think they were about £10. They're really handy because as soon as I start hoovering etc he'll just put them on.

I've just had a look on ebay. Write in ear defenders rather than headphones. There's quite a lot of peltor ones under £10 in various bright colours.

We have the peltor ones for DS1, he has a problem with DS2's noisy eating (which is acyually not that bad) so wears them at mealtimes to avoid fights breaking out about squelching etc. looks a bit daft but works.!

If we're out and about, ds1 puts his hood up and ds2 wears a hat to muffle the noise. At home we have the Peltor ear defenders that have already been mentioned. Ds1 uses similar ones at school too for when the classroom is too noisy for him.

Thanks.Getting her to keep ear defenders on will be interesting though
