Well another trip to A & E last night, got home at 2.00am in the morning, with a nice blob of glue on his head.

Alfie fell again, daddy had taken him and other ds to Debenhams, Alf was staring at himself in a free standing mirror (are they still allowed them in shops) daddy called him and he lost his balance again and fell banging his head and gouging his head on a corner on a platform display.

Surely when its there safety (this will be his 8/9th fall since Sept, 3 trips to A & E, they can rush things a long a little.

The world seems such a huge dangerous place to me and ds at the mo.

oh bugger. sorry to hear of a further A & E trip.

WedgiesMum · 05/12/2008 19:42

Poor little man! Hope the tree has cheered him up.

alfiemama · 05/12/2008 19:53

Ah thanks for all your kind messages

Spoke to the GP (only managed to at 5pm) but he said that he will get onto them Monday and will see if he can pull some strings.

The school nurse rang, she said once a dx in place they can help more (but I know this is boolocks and they should be doing more)

My friend spoke to Alfies teacher who asked how he was and said we did an amazing job with him, unfortunately I took this to mean he is worse than we thought and broked down in floods of tears (wuss, I know)

Do you think a helmet is a bad idea (didnt want to single him out anymore than he is) or should I just do it for his safety.

Mil suggested taking ds out of school (she said she would defo do this) until he gets dx (not sure how I feel about this)

But then on reflection the last fall, was outside of school

Re:school - I wouldn't take him out, because he may find it very hard to cope with going back after a long absence. Also you may not get a definite dx at first appointment. I would speak to GP again re:the falls and see if you could push for a quicker paed appointment - say if they could refer you to the hospital just to look at why he's falling rather than to do assessments re:ASD. (just seen GP is trying to sort something out now!).

sorry the school nurse is being so unhelpful.

magso · 08/12/2008 10:41

Sorry Alfie in the wars again! Hope he recovers soon. (Ds was well known at Paed A+E - we felt like we had a season ticket too.)
What do you think would help at school? Keep a note of all incidents - (this can be helpful when asking for a statement)

alfiemama · 08/12/2008 12:09

Afternoon, everyone

Well quite pleased with myself, Alfie had an old boxing helmet, which I cut up and doctored by sewing it into his bobble hat (ok for winter), its only makeshift, but really couldnt face him going to school with no protection, it was either that or stop him playing out (which he loves), so fingers crossed for today.

He did look very funny and got some odd looks, but who cares as long as his head is safe. The only way I could get it on him, was to say that it was a super heroe hat and that when he wore this he was given magical powers.

The Dr said hes gonna push for a cancellation, so heres hoping he can pull some strings.

Thanks for the advice, Total and Magso I am definately keeping a diary

arghhhhhh, school have just told me that the ed physc for our area is off because she has broken her ankle and there are only 4 in our area and they cant take over her duties.

Alfs hat kept slipping down, so think more harm than good, going to have to order one from the net.

Ht said as he been referred to complex difficulties, is this the same as community paed? She also said would we like a report for the pead.

Oh dear Lord! How old is Alfie? Would a rugby scrum type helmet do? Or a martial arts guard? I know you can get some kids ones for about £10 - may be worth a try x

alfiemama · 08/12/2008 21:08

Hi Festive

Alfie is a small 4. I think as long as its not really obvious, ie I was going to stick his bobble hat over it in winter, then yes.

Daft question but are they for sale in sports shops, really want to get him one asap.

My blood pressure is through the roof at the mo

alfiemama · 08/12/2008 21:17

sorry should have said, it seems to be his fonatelle (think thats what its called, that he hits when he falls) so would need to have some kind of padding on that bit.

OP posts:
feelingbitfestive · 08/12/2008 21:44

Yes, should be readily available in the bigger sports stores (JJB etc) or you can have a look on 'tinterweb. We buy stuff from Lovell rugby on 'net which is where I last saw them - don't know if they do kids tho. Could try searching Childrens Sports Protection.

alfiemama · 08/12/2008 21:54

Hiya

Thats where Im comming unstuck, as cant seem to find any kiddies ones, will pop off now and have a look at Lovell, but been trying on the tinternet all night and nothing, tried ebay and nothing suitable. Lots of them look very cumbersome, going to be a challenge to get it on him as it is.

alfiemama · 08/12/2008 22:00

Hi Festive

Tried the Lovell one, all I can find is a youths one, but when I looked on the size chart, it does look like its going to be far too big. Will keep trying. Thanks for the tip on rugby though

feelingbitfestive · 08/12/2008 22:02

I'll keep thinking for you. We buy them in work for the little 'uns like Alfie, but after 6mnths mat leave, I can't bloody remember!

alfiemama · 08/12/2008 22:11

Thanks Festive, its just he only blumming lands on his head, we think something to do with his reflexes. Ah congrats on the new baby

OP posts:
feelingbitfestive · 08/12/2008 22:17

this is it
But they may be a bit bulky to sneak under a bobble hat!

alfiemama · 08/12/2008 22:35

rofl, I cut up one like that last night, to be fair it was toooo small and squashed his head.

Its just the bit that covers the face, I know I am soooo fussy, thanks anyway festive

Fledglings had some nice child friendly hats that they were selling for aboout £10 rcently. Also JJB do the rugby helmet. I have a brand new 'medical' type hat/helmet if you want it. would fit around 4yrs. Was made for my ds (epilepsy) but he out grew it before he needed it again. Not v. nice to look at but will keep him safe. [email protected] if you want it. (or any one else )

alfiemama · 09/12/2008 21:11
