did others feel like they were betraying their child? Poor unsuspecting dd will be loaded onto bus this afternoon, all smiley cos she will think its a fun trip. But no, evil mother is taking her to hospital to do a terrible thing to her
I feel like a total shit over this
I hate making these awful decisions.

its my job to protect her.
And, and I know this is completely paranoid and over anxious and all my own fear, I am truly petrified she will die on the operating table
Just can't get this out my head and am afraid i will turn into total screaming wreck tomorrow

((need)). the hospital stuff is scary and never 100% risk free, it's only natural you feel anxious. but noone could do any more or better for her than you.

needmorecoffee · 04/12/2008 10:35

I'll be in the theatre saying are you sure thats the right oxygen, is that the right size scalpel, how qualified are you/
BCH killed a child easrlier this year when the aneasthtist put oxygen into the vein!

((NMC)). You're not evil, you're trying to help her.

slightlycrumpled · 04/12/2008 11:48

NMC Although ds2 had a different operation, I felt terrible. I am also a total control freak, and whilst not medically qualified five years of DS2 has given me some kind of medical education! He has had many operations but this last one was more risky, long term as well as in theatre, but the staff were great, just as a quick point to remember always add on an hour at least to how long they tell you she will be in theatre for. Surgeons never consider putting them to sleep or waking them up when they tell you the timings! We were climbing the walls and I was practically hysterical.

I did feel as though I was betraying him, but six weeks on it is just a memory and he is practically fully recovered and back to his happy self.

You are doing your very, very best and no parent can ever do more than that. Good luck, I'm sure she will be back in your arms soon.

needmorecoffee · 04/12/2008 11:51

she has a runny nose. Wondering if it will go ahead now.

OP posts:
slightlycrumpled · 04/12/2008 11:58

Oh dear, something else to worry about for you.

DS2 coughed the night before his operation and I was convinced it wouldn't happen untill DH reminded me he has coughed every night since he was 12 weeks old!

I do hope you are both okay.

needmorecoffee · 04/12/2008 14:15

argh had a call sayings its cancelled but am on phone to admissions and they are saying it isnt

OP posts:
needmorecoffee · 04/12/2008 14:15

they dont know who made the call and as dh took it neither do i

OP posts:
needmorecoffee · 04/12/2008 14:18

oh ffs

OP posts:
needmorecoffee · 04/12/2008 14:20

it was the bed manager. There's no beds in the entire hospital. But all 3 surgeons are still expecting dd (tube/botox/dental) so been begging to come in tomrrow and at least have the two 'day' procedures done.
So, surgeons and theatre ready but no beds. How shit is that?

OP posts:
needmorecoffee · 04/12/2008 14:20

waiting for call back now.

Oh No!!!! It is shite when this happens! Cannot believe it, I hope they manage to get her a bed tomorrow.

When you think of the experts ready to do the op, your ready (kind of), dd's sorted and then no bed. How disheartening for you.

needmorecoffee · 04/12/2008 14:55

she says we can come in tomorrow morning at 7am and they'll find bed after as 3 surgeons and theatre space will be wasted otherwsie.
But Lottie just txtd me and said there's 3 empty beds on the cardiac ward next to her!

OP posts:
needmorecoffee · 04/12/2008 14:56

wondering whether it would be out of order to call bed manager and point this out or if that would just piss them off.

OP posts:
used2bthin · 04/12/2008 15:02

Been watcing this and hopng all goes ahead for you, I remember how I have felt when DD's op got postponed once, I was so dreading it but not wanting to prolong the agony either. I once pointed out that there were loads of beds when we were told no beds and had to be moved to a different hosital (not op situation dd was ill) and was told that what they meant was not enough nurses. So frustrating for you good luck.

needmorecoffee · 04/12/2008 15:05

she don't need a nurse cos we look after her as she would only be there overnight to wait. Or is that not allowed?
I at least need to the tooth/botox done as a day case.
Bloody hospital. Lets hope dd doesn't go into status epilepticus in the next day then. Cos that requires emergency hospital admission.

OP posts:
used2bthin · 04/12/2008 15:07

Ps I had the betrayel feeling with my DD's op too because I had to make the decision on her having it and when etc but can see now that it wasn't me thinking iyswim, so hard to make these decisions for her, they are made in her best interests though. I am another who keeps asking have you done correct procedure, you realise she needs this before etc don't you! I don't think they mind. Well I don't care if they mind!

used2bthin · 04/12/2008 15:11

Not sure about the nurse thing, does she go in the night before for obs?

misdee · 04/12/2008 15:12

nurses will be doing all the checks b4 surgery.

needmorecoffee · 04/12/2008 15:15

the going in tonight was to save us trying to get her meds into her and find a taxi at 7am. A wheelchair accessible one.

OP posts:
feelingbitbetter · 04/12/2008 15:16

Oh bleedin' hell! They can't delay now. I think I'd hold on to the empty bed info for ammunition. As you say, you are entirley responsible for DDs high level of medical care, so that shouldn't be used as an excuse. Aaaarrgh!
I remember when tgey refused to DSs MRI coz he was ventilated and they didn't have an anaesthetist. The doc who actually intubated him was willing to go - but they wouldn't do it. Bloody elf'n'safety procedures and burocrats get in the way of everything. Bet the Docs are as pissed off as you. Thinking positive thoughts for you xx

slightlychristmasycrumpled · 04/12/2008 16:57

Positive thoughts here as well needmorecoffee. We have also been told in the past that lack of beds will often be lack of nursing staff.

magso · 04/12/2008 18:07

Oh dear - why do they have to mess your dd about!!! Thinking of you - (hug).
