I have just been promised (fingers crossed) some equipment for disabled kids and changing facilities (which I didnt even ask for!!) in a soon to be 'regenerated' park in Bolton. I have set up a meeting in my ds1's school, (which I know only 2 or3 parents of disabled kids will turn up at, despite complaining that our kids have nowhere to play, ) with a rep from the council who wants us to see the plans before they are submitted. I just told a long-term foster-parent of a child with Autism and all she could say was "its all well and good, but if the parking is not accessible its no good is it?" Whilst I accept that parking has to be accessible (which it IS) why cant she just be pleased that we are getting SOMETHING suitable for the majority of kids with disabilities and that we are being asked to be involved in the consulting process. Sorry to rant but I am really brassed of with people who are regard themselves as Parent-advocates for our kids, complain all day about what we dont get/have, do nothing about the things they are moaning about and then they still moan when somebody else does it for them! Am I wrong to expect parents to be pleased that finally our kids are getting something to play on, on a local authority park that we dont have to pay for?

Well done you! They don't deserve you! Surely if she is that bothered about the parking she needs to get her butt to the meeting and bring it up! on your behalf but don't let them put you off - keep up the good work!

I agree. People moan on then do bugger all. When dd is at school I attend very tedious meetings with the council to push the needs and rights of disabled people. Then someone will bitch about it.

I know. Some people are never happy no matter what you do. some have a humongous chip on their shoulder about the whole sn thing and have become very bitter. Sad for them of course, but they'll suck the very life out of you if you let them! I avoid that type, they drive me crazy. Shame you've got one on at you!

we got 2 SN swings at our local park BUT, 1, they are too big for children like dd. 2, they are of a size that will fit kids aged 10 plus when the park if for under 8's and 3, there's no hoist so past aged 6 or so you can't lift your child from wheelchair to swing.
But at least they thought about it
I did point it out at a council commitee meeting once and they were horrified and it turns out they hadn't actually consulted any disabled people or parents of disabled children.
So I got my oar in early about the wheelchair accessible roundabout and we're getting a properly dsigned one the wheelchair can go on
I also said 'what about climbing frames' just to see expression...
