i am soooooooooooooooooo

DD came home from school upset, she said tearfully look at my 2 stickers, when i asked her what they were for she said for sitting on the toilet.

i praised her for being a good girl and she started screaming "I DONT WANT TO SIT ON THE TOILET" and started rolling on the floor screaming, just scream after scream,so DH said right this is it ive had enough and he phoned the headteacher.

The headteacher went and got the teacher, they could both hear DD screaming, they said she seemed happy to sit on the toilet and didnt realise this was how she got and that they wont do it again.

Now the child consultant psych from CAMHS wrote a letter last month advising them NOT to toilet train her, that it would be counterproductive as she is highly anxious.

First thing monday morning im straight onto CAMHS,i cant tell you how annoyed i am over it,poor DD.

Your poor DD. She must have known that the stickers were meant to be good and pleasing, but she didn't feel that way . My DD can react the same way to things.

Lucky for her she has you to fight her corner - go get them!

yes i will fight her corner, she has been so upset most of the night, shes been having meltdown after meltdown.

DH told her that he has spoke to the head and they wont do it again and she tearfully nodded.

i dont think the psych will be impressed as she specifically told them NOT to do it and said she would be in touch.

shes due to go in to school in 2 weeks, the cynic in me thinks theyve done this today so they can say there is no problem but they have made things worse.

it is hard for school as well because dd is so passive and they probably didnt realise the extent of her anxiety, well they do now.

sorry the problems carry on re:toilet training, I remember the hassle you had with her nursery.

jenk1 · 22/11/2008 12:52

i think had nursery worked along with us instead of forcing a frightened child to sit on a potty against her will, that she could well have been toilet trained by now.

we think the only way that dd will be trained and less anxious is by use of medication,as we,ve tried everything else, but we are not sure of CAMHS policy of medicating children under the age of 5.

i know its on the horizon, possibly when shes 5 which is in about 5 months and am steeling myself for them suggesting it,we refused to put DS on meds as we felt the LEA should take responsibility for what went on as they caused the situation,im glad we didnt put him on them as hes thriving now,but DS was never as anxious as DD is and we have to think about the atmosphere at home which is ruled by DD,s anxiety.

its so hard isnt it deciding whether or not to medicate isnt it.
