SN children

Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

Does anyone else have a child with double incontinence? How do you deal with it?

DD is 5 and has always had very sudden urges to use the loo for wees and poohs (2 mins warning at best) but was finally diagnosed as being doubly incontinent last week .

At home she can reach the loo in time but in Public, whilst travelling, or swimming we have little choice apart from putting a nappy on her.

I don't know any other parents with children like this, and was wondering how others manage to cope with it.

p.s. we also have two boys aged 7 and 9 so we can't spend all our time on her.

Thanks for the advice magso,
DD is in a small private school (as with all my children) so this makes things easier. On a normal day she will wear pants to school and the teachers know to let her go as soon as she needs to, she doesn't have to ask. In the event of an accident the school nurse has a supply of nappies and will put her in a nappy if she does have an accident.
If she has games or PE she'll get changed then go to the nurse for her nappy,(the games fields are across a road) and will have it taken off afterwards.
There are toilets right by the pool but as you said the water affects awareness so her swimming costume has a built in nappy, if she does use it the nurse normally puts her in a nappy for the rest of the day as well.

She is OK round the house and normally only has accidents once a month so not much need for cushions.
Emptying her bladder before bed and going out helps on the wee front, but emptying an un-full bowel is virtually impossible so for that reason she is always in nappies when we go out and when she's in bed or sleeping. Her being in a nappy we don't need changes of clothes (or we'd go through at least one an outing) only stuff needed for nappy changes.
