LollipopViolet · 08/11/2008 20:08

Awww nmc, glad you have a date, sorry you're scared That's 3 days after my birthday, so assuming it all goes ahead, I shall keep your DD in my birthday thoughts, and hope it goes well for you

bullet123 · 08/11/2008 21:02

Will send lots of positive thoughts that the operation goes well.

glitteryb6 · 08/11/2008 21:23

nmc, ds has now had his op, he's neither up nor down and after the first few hours seemed pretty much unaffected by it all, i now know i did the right thing but i too was also scared by trace2's experience, but as she says that wasnt the norm.

read my post, it did go really well.

trace2 · 09/11/2008 08:43

glitteryb6 where your post been looking out fot you?

needmorecoffee · 09/11/2008 09:10

my op is a possible hysterectomy afetra fentons procedure. Dunno if I can do that and then deal with dd and her op.

Good luck NMC - it sounds like you have a difficult decision to make. Hope DD's surgery goes well - let us know how you all get on.

trace2 · 09/11/2008 09:22

so sorry you having to deal with both have they talked you through dd op?

needmorecoffee · 09/11/2008 09:26

nope. In fact we got a phone call from the dental hospital for the teeth part (they are doingteeth, botox and G-tube under the same GA) and the woman had no idea that dd was staying several days and other ops were being done.
So I need to ring monday and find out what the hell is going on. Last saw the G-tube surgeon in August and no mention of another meeting was given or the chance to talk it through.

aww just make you ask all questions you need and you know where i am if you need to chat

needmorecoffee · 09/11/2008 09:45

I'm definately going to cancel mine. If I had a hysterecotmny I'd be feeling fragile and iff dd's needed back and forth to hospital via A&E then I couldn't do it.
Bit worried about doing it before crimbo as the whole country shuts down but I'm guessing we'll still need a fair amount of support for the first month?

My dd is haveing her gastrostomy in Bristol on December 3rd! I'm worried too but can see how much difference it will make to her after being stuck in hospital all week with her having d&v and an ng tube x

needmorecoffee · 09/11/2008 12:59

2 days before mine. Also in Bristol. You'll probably still be there! Do you know what ward you'll be on?

trace2 · 09/11/2008 17:59

yes lottie thats one advantage they carnt get dehydrated now

pinkelly · 24/11/2008 22:47

hi nmc,
my son having his gastrostomy put in was the best thing for him! he uses his as a bolus milk feed after every meal. although 12, he only eats small meals, so needs these 'top ups' to keep his weight gaining. it's like having your ear pierced and the hole heals right round it. the 'button' ones we have found to be best as they lie flat against his tummy. the long tube ones tended to get in the way and they need admission to hospital for replacement if they fall out. the button ones you can replace yourself.....don't worry, you can get a nurse to do it if you want.
i hope you haven't cancelled the op and have managed to get the other ops lined up along side?
my ds had botox and gastro done at the same time aswell!!
good luck

needmorecoffee · 25/11/2008 10:36

hi pinkelly. Still don't know if the G-tube is being doen next week. The surgeons secrtary never answers the damn phone. It'll be a long tube to start with then she goes on the wait list for a button as 'non-urgent' so maybe 6 months. Bristol don't put buttons in straight away much to my annoyance. I am worried about granulation and infection though.
As dd startsthe keto diet in 3 weeks I am talking to her paed about how sensible it is to have keto/g-tube at the same time. the keto diet really affects health and upsets the tummy. Plus, despite her PH probe being negative for relfux (so they are not doing a fundo) I reckon she is having reflux. She pukes easily and grimaces as if there are yucky tatses in her mouth.
Having said al that, since we increased her cream and butter (her meals are now half fat, half veggies) she has put on a kilo in a month and has slipped onto the weight charts. So now I'm not sure if a tube is neccassary.
Seeing her pead on friday to question him within an inch of his life
