OK, little bit of explaining first, but, I'm 18, and scared of fireworks, have been since about 7. I used to be surgically attached to the nearest adult, and then to a radio/CD player/iPod. But this year, so far, I've not needed my iPod. I've still got tomorrow obviosly but I'm so proud of myself.

The reason I posted here, is because I know noise sensitivity is sometimes an ASD thing (I've often wondered if I am, but that's for another thread...) Anyone else got any success stories, and to anyone with AS/ASD teens, how do you/they cope, not just with the noises, but with the teasing that might come with the fear?

Well, I'm not bad with fireworks and displays as long as I have someone with me and it's something very beautiful, as I know to expect them. I'm worse with high pitched mechanical noises, alarms or roadworks - they cut across my hearing, and I can't hear someone speaking against background noise or filter out unwanted noises.

Earplugs are handy. I always carry some.

Congratulations. My ds is terrified of the noise of fireworks but loves to watch them. This year we managed a full display with the aid of ear defenders. He was so excited and proud of himself.

I DID IT! No mp3 player needed! Quite pleased really, though I do think there's been a reduction in fireworks anyway, at least in my area :D So happy!

Well done Lollipop, thats a huge step and you should be pleased.

Dd1 is only 4 so no experience of teens, she hates loud noises but this year manged to watch the red arrows preform, she was so pleased with herself. She still can't be in the same room as the hoover or food mixer though.
