The last letter we got for DS1 (16y ADHD+ middle rate, lower mobility) did not have a time frame on it, and says:

"we will continue to paying your DLA into your account (then rambles on about the account and what to do if it doesnt arrive)... please note we may look at you award again from time to time to make sure that you are getting the right amount of DLA. This means that if the amount of help you need has changed [blah blah blah] If there has been no change in the amount of help you need then your award will stay the same."

It has confused me slightly because the one we got with the award letter (a couple of months ago) said something about reviewing/renewing when hes 18y, but there wasnt an actual date on that either (like it normally goes up to the day before the birthday) it just said more or less the same as the above statement. so is it an award until hes 18 or not? [confused icon]

If any of you know what im blithering on about i would most appreciate a bit of light shedding on my confusion, thanks

I think these can be got after 16. Mine is a lifetime award and I had a letter like that.
But I don't know about them checking at 18.
I tried to get lifetime for dd cos its not like she is ever going to get better but the DWP woman said they no longer did it for under 16's Obviously much more fun getting us to fill in those bloody forms every now and then. I did them at 3 months, 2 years and 3 years. Whens the next?

thanks NMC - well your DD might grow out her quad CP, epilepsy and severe feeding problems. Im guessing they will ask you to fill em all in again when shes 5 .

thanks again for responding. {hugs}

just got the form for DD to renew today,she has PDD-NOS,hemiplegia,asthma and eczema,the first 2 are lifetime conditions no doubt they,ll set it for another 2 years and ill have to gear myself up all over again.

i got a extension for dd last time, think it was 5 years.

DD3's most recent award did not state a time frame - she has DS and ASD, like jenk's DD both lifetime conditions. She had her initial forms done at 3 months, then 3 years, 5 years and now 8 years. This last award was her first at higher care rate, and as I said, it had no date for renewal.

My DD is two and has a lifetime award but they say it could still be reviewed at any time, they review a certain percentage each year

After applying as a baby, we got forms when she was 3 before mobility started and had nothing since and she is 8 now. So she must have a life time or no time limit. At least they know like we do she will never get any better.

thanks for everyones messages , i appreciate you taking time to type.

Incidentally, just checked DS5's (2.5 autism) and his runs until hes 5yrs, unless i want to apply for mobility at 3yrs.

Its strange tho, cos there doesnt seem to be a universal system between the decision makers some children who obviously need lifetime awards, dont seem to be getting them. . thanks again to everyone.
