? Absence seizure ?
Don't want to scare you but is this the same DD being tested for Angelmans?

Sometimes kids daydream so may be nothing.

How old is DD?
As to the tantrums, no advice sorry

you may want to consider a camhs assessment for a neurological disorder or something on the spectrum to be referred by paediatrician.
please look up www.autism.com
or www.treating autism.com
a lot of children on the spectrum bang their heads and bite themselves and others and have no socilaization or able to show affection or even notice you in the room
this does not mean to say this is your child,
i suggest some osteopathy to releave your childs problems they could help alleviate some of the problems
i only know british school of osteopathy and the foundation of osteopathy, the latter helps only children and pregnant mothers, i urge you to see an osteopath, i am sure you will see changes, there is an article about a child in the autism file sept 08 can be found on line who lived in the middle east who bit his hand, he was helped through the people who run this magazine it is www.autismfile.com good luck

Have a look at here and read 'complex partial' seizures and 'absence' seizures and see if those descriptions apply.
Hope not, but please have a read anyway.

Good for you dsr, positive is definitely the way to go, but please don't be frightening yourself with too much info (the internet can drive you mad - I know!) I hope I've read this right and you've decided to have the tests, if you are, I'm glad.
Try to stay positive but come and have a vent on here if you are worried. how long will you have to wait for the results?

pushkar · 27/10/2008 20:48

you could do the atec score list at the autism research institute and ask for advice...
head banging and other self harming things are usually due to the child feeling uncomfortable
i.e
constipation
fussy eating or not much eating
diahroea
puffy skin red flairs ups after certain foods
red ears
you may want your child tested for allergies
most common being wheat nuts and dairy..can be referred or done privately in a clinic such as neals yard or somewhere like genova diagnostics.
investigate fully... angelmans is a chromosome defect usually the child has a large head pale eyes, autism can be any kind of child from any background ethnicity..
gluten and casein fre diet might help your child for a six week period and eliminate foods slowly.the www.nutricentre.com has a variety of books in particular children with starving brains is a good one please have a look on line.

dsrplus8 · 27/10/2008 20:53

fbb, yes we have decided to go with the tests.the docs r doing different ones,4 chromosome defects/conditions ect, unsure but should take couple of months ,first lot standered tests came back clear, normal hormones ,blood gases ect.what u said about finding out made whole picture a lot clearer, never said thanx, but is helped ,so"thank you "

OP posts:
pushkar · 27/10/2008 21:12

i would still consider osteopathy it could releive your child even before the tests come back, some tests take two months to come back. we are doing more genetic tests at the moment
an meg scan can show what brain activity is happenning as opposed to the mri scan that show s just a picture. both can be done together...

Hello dsr my DD has absence epilepsy she was DX around 2 years ago when she was 5 she is now on medication and we havent seen an absence for a long time she used to have sometimes 30 to 40 a day where she would go into aworld of her own and not be aware of anything going on around her at all, she goes round in circles walks into things and would walk into the road if she had one in the street, we are hoping that she will grow out of them and come of the medication, don't know if this is any help to you but if you have any questions may be able to help you, well will do my best anyway.

kazann,my dd4 spins as if shes trying to make herself dizzy, is that what u mean by going around in circles?

OP posts:
Kazann · 27/10/2008 21:52

Just goes round and round slowly my DD is an awful eater to would eat the same things everyday quite happily thats why we havent even attempted to do any sort of special diet with her because she hardly eats anything. her eyes also flicker when she is going round at pre-school the teachers used to think DD was ignoring them and we went for numerous hearing tests because they thought she couldnt hear them then we found out it was the absence epilepsy.

pushkar · 04/11/2008 20:02

gluten can be found in gravy granules to do the elimination diet, just remeove one thing, i.e. wheat, go and buy wheat free products i.e. from tesco or sainsbury's or health food shop. there are lots of books avsilable out there about. please look in the nutri centre.. behaviours like finikity eaters head banging selective eating no eye contact biting and liking funrniture and skin are all associated with colurings wheat and dairy and corn if possible. do one at a time for two weeks and record everything also get rid of the milk and try rice dream or soya milk. a good book is
