farking adaptations

fucking company that are meant to be doing the adaptations have delayed us and delayed us. It should of been done in April and has nw slipped till January. Now they inform us that despite their quote, the price has risen cos materials cost has gone up. FFS, can they do that when its their own fault there's this delay?
And the fucking grant is 30K. Last Aprils quote was already 43K which meant we have to find 13 K (which we haven't done cos we don't have that sort of money)

I just want it bloody done. We have water leaking in the roof but no point repairing it as it will all be ripped off for the adaptations and FFS, dd needs a bath.

Do you have the original quote in writing? It may state that it's only valid for 30 days (or similar) from the date of the quote. If the quote isn't qualified and it is entirely their fault that the schedule has slipped, then you may want to seek legal advice - may be worth it.

I remember doing a legal course years ago at work and the instructor said that a verbal quote is legally binding so you may have similar rights with a written quote (I'm assuming your quote is a written one) - I'd check if I were you.

You know, Riven, if you had an NT child and didn't bath it for 3 years they'd do you for neglect...and yet it seems to be acceptable to them to let your DD go unwashed...
I think it's really crap that you (and she!) get treated like that!!

I am just so fed up of this. We started this process when she was 2. She's now 4 and a half.

No wonder you're pissed off. Do you have a written quote? If so check if it's legally binding re the price.

Have you any kind of cintract with them? i.e Did you sign a contract agreeing that they would do the work? I guess quotes can expire, but if you offered them a conntract as a result of the quote - with a timescale - and they have reneged on that, then you could hold them to it?

It's a complete pain and a disgrace, whatever the reason and outcome.

dh says we did signa contract. Surely that means they can't change the quote?

Sounds promising but you need to check any small print - is the contract bounded by a timeframe in any way? If not, then you could have a case.

nope, they put TBA at all the time things but the price is quoted. Trying to get the guy in the grants section of the council to talk to me but he's 'never at his desk'
Any increase in price we will be liable for as its way over the max adaptatiosn grants and we just can't afford it

Sounds terrible that the grant doesn't cover the entire cost - are there any other grant options/charity options that you could pursue to make up the shortfall? My friend had her garage and downstairs study turned into a bedroom and adjoining wet room for her PMLD ds - I believe SS paid for it but my friend paid the difference for the tiles because SS would only pay for the cheapest ones!!

Do you think you will get the adaptations done if the delta cost becomes too much? Surely as your dd gets older, bigger, heavier, then SS will have to do something to ensure your house can meet her needs?

I plan to start trawling charities. Again.
the SS don't really have to do antyhing. they nearly refused the adaptations cos our house is too small! Quite happy for dd to sleep on the iitchen floor and never have a wash.
Once dd reaches 7 or so we can't lug her up the stairs any more. And even now she can't have a shower and so she doesn't get washed except flannel washes.
I'm feeling all tearful inside over this and the thought of endless phone calls and bits of paper.

This is terrible - nobody would allow an old-age care home to treat their elderly residents like this, so how can it be acceptable to SS that this is how you/your dd are living? Have you tried your MP/going to the local paper? It must be very draining every time you want to wash and put your dd to bed, not pleasant for her either. Although my ds presents entirely different challenges to your dd, at least I don't have to lift him about. Good luck in solving this problem.

Riven, really, this is making me sick. I simply cannot understand why you have to bloody fight all the time. Imagine if an NT child was being forced to live like this? There'd be bloody uproar. I am sure you have already, but have you been in touch with Disability Network? I beleive that they take up causes such as yours and help you with the battle. God knows you deserve some.

Just re-read my post - not well written, sorry. I hope you don't think I was implying that you were forcing DD to live as she does. - can't express myself well. P.S. Second MMAJ - get your MP involved (ours has been ace in chivying NHS investigate DSs care), media, ANYONE to shame the powers that be into sorting this out for you xx

LAs do have the power to make discretionary grants for additional costs - they don't advertise this though but I know at least one family who has managed to get one. Might be worth making noises about at least?

the discretionary grant is fully recoverable either in the form of a low interest loan or attatched to the house and must be paid when you sell it.
They've allowed us £6000 over the 30K which must be paid back. Plus we have to find £7000 +
