Any tips from you guys for a tactful way of saying "fuck off you fucker this is not about you and your hang ups"?

My mum has hearing loss and has issues with wearing her own hearing aid, and issues with her hearing loss in general.

Hi,
Don't have any experience of hearing loss, but bumping for you. x

cory · 03/10/2008 09:55

Can't think of anything clever to say, but I'll offer to come and run her over with dd's wheelchair if she makes any kind of comments. This is one of my pet hates, adults who want to deprive children of aids they need, because they are hung up about SN. Ffs the world does not revolve around them! A child's wellbeing comes first.

And I think a chance to hear in stereo sounds brilliant!

Doesn't sound like your mum is too bothered about being tactful. This is going to make a difference to your dds hearing, theres always the chance she will hear these comments and have a few words of her own for her nan. I really hope your dd doesn't pick up her negativity, dd3 has gained so much from being properly aided, it's been a really positive experience for us.

LOL at wheelchair rage

Thanks. I'm keen to shield her from the negative comments. She has enough on her plate without thinking that getting somethng to help is going to be a bad thing.

I do feel sorry for my mum, dont get me wrong, but, things are so much different now than they were 50 years ago.

You're definitely right about things having changed in the last 50 years, thankfully! Has your dd had a choice of colours for her aids and moulds? My older kids think dd3s pink aids and glittery moulds are cool. Have you been in touch with the ndcs to see if they run any childrens groups near you, could help if she doesn't come across that many other children who are aided. Hopefully seeing how excited you are for her will over ride any negativity from your mum.

no advice, but how exiting for your dd.
ds has just had his hearing restored and even at 16 he managed to get really happy about hearing metal in stereo.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 03/10/2008 11:27

oh yes...have joined up to ncds.

She has a pink glittery mould. She wanted ones with the pictures in but they cant do it for her type of mould. The next one she is getting will be multi-coloured. She's excited about that.

Is "fuck off you fucker this is not about you and your hang ups" not an option then?

VeniVidiVickiQV · 03/10/2008 11:29

ta 2shoes.

DD loves her music. She's often to be found playing air guitar and singing at the top of her voice.

She sings "keep bleeding, keep keep bleeding" over and over and over again

Sadly not soupy

I do work with her too after all....

She's just one of those sensitively self absorbed sorts. She wont change, but, by the same token, I dont want to tiptoe around her either.

She did have it tough as a child. And she's just found out that the medication that damaged her hearing could possibly have damaged her heart too (streptomycin).

It doesnt stop me thinking "fuck off you fucker" though

Tell her that the audiologist gave you a choice between hearing aids and ear trumpets.

bigcar · 03/10/2008 13:01

Rofl coppertop, do they come in different colours?

I was thinking of that old lady in allo allo before I clicked on your link!
