DD speaks...

DD is 26 months and until today, had only ever spoken once (she said 'daddy' about six weeks ago but has never said it again). We've been seeing a SALT regularly, and working hard on makaton for over a year, plus lots of turn-taking exercises, all without great results. I began to wonder if she would ever speak. Buttoday, I said 'ready, steady....' and she said, '...go!' And then she did it again4 times.
I am SO proud.

am aware that's only 3 days but still--t's got to be good news!
Just out of interest, what kind of criteria do SALTs use when assessing language delay? I've been doing a bit of research but not really turning up what I want to read, ie an explanation of the centiles.

That's wonderful news ! Keep us posted ! I too, would love to know about language criteria . I have no idea where DS1 would be in any chart.

Noone has ever bothered doing a centile test on DS until very recently (so 18 months into the system), instead they have tended to work on chronological age as much as anything- so they have a set of skills that they put into a 6 month band. BTW the official bottom of normal range for language is 17th centile, so lower than you would expect.

oh and well done mini-arabica!

the only type of assessment that was done, was in months - and it was only about a month into having SALT. DS5 was placed at having the speech/communication ability of an 8mth old (he was 2y at the time). I have heard about the 'centiles' but dont know anything about them, would love to know for future reference tho.
