Hello all,
My DD2 is 15mo and has GDD (diagnosed at 6 months with just development delay). She is still just sitting, she's not moving although it does look like she's going to start bottom shuffling soon (DD1 did this and showed th same signs). She doesn't yet say anything and is yet to self feed. She receives weekly Physio, OT, SALT, Portage plus usual paed appointments etc.

She plays with things constantly and is always busy. We basically work really hard on her and her development is going the right way, but what I want to know is what can I expect? Is it likely she'll walk by 2? Will she be able to attend mainstream pre-school/school? I just have no ida where we are heading and it's driving me crazy. I would love to hear from anyone who's DC has GDD (no matter how old) and see what milestones they reached and when.

Sorry for the long blurb!!

Ah, how nice to walk along holding hands! DD can do this for a few steps but she doesn't really understand about walking in a straight line to go from A to B and thinks going out without the buggy means an opportunity to investigage everyone's front garden (especially the ones with overflowing recycling bins).
In only the last 3 weeks, DD has re-started a block of work with her SALT and suddenly acquired her first words'Okkar' (her brother, Oskar); 'go' (if we prompt her with "ready, steady...") and 'ggoo gir' ("good girl") accompanied with a thumbs up sign. She's also trying to sing. It's wonderfulam so proud of her. But the point of this wasn't to boast, just to say that you can never tell when they will surprise you--a well-timed block of speech therapy seemed all she needed to produce her first words.

I couldn't have put it any better myself cheekychaps. I go over the top happy when DD2 reaches a milestone and call everyone. It's definately great to talk to other parents going through the same thing. Are you up to your eyeballs in therapy every day? DD2's therapy rules my life, and even DD1 (3.6) has been roped into it (and does a pretty good job actually).

I just hope she catches up one day or that I actually reach a day where I don't feel guilty for doing something that isn't "therapy".

Hayleyk, I forgot to thank you for all that info, DD2 does seem to fit into some of the dyspraxia symptoms.

Fang and Arabica, thank you. I find it very hard not to compare DD2 with DD1, and seem to be constantly reminded (post natal group friends) how behind she is. But, you are right she is unique and will get there. It's just all the therapy that has totally taken over me. I stayed in all day on Monday and worked on DD2 every minute she was awake and I still didn't manage to cover it all and feel so guilty. I always feel if I managed to get it all done every day would she have caught up. I'm very good at torturing myself as you can probably tell.

She did her first makaton sign today though, she asked for 'more' singing. Yippee!!!

I try to do therapy everyday, but it's much easier now he's going to Mencap pre-school, they do physio, SALT, and lots of other stuff too so takes a little pressure off me. We have Portage every 2 weeks and now have a physio coming to the house every week for an hour. In the last two weeks though we've appointments coming out of our ears, they just seem to happen all at once - i'm knackered!

We tried signing for the last 18 months or so, but DS just couldn't seem to grasp it. But this week I tried again and today he's copied me doing "more". I was so excited.

Physio said she will try DS in a walker from next week. So things are looking up.

Also don't know if you've ever heard of DREAMS COME TRUE CHARITY but they've just funded a special trike for DS and it was delivered last week comes with all legs supports and everything. Worth a try applying for any equipment, it's not means tested or anything, just one little form for you and a witness to fill out. I can't recommend them enough for helping us out.
