Anyone heard of Rossendale School?

Trying madly to research backup plans to mainstream.

Have come across mention of this Priory School which seems to mainly cater for generic EBD children, but also seems to have some with ASD.

Has anybody heard anything about it? Thanks.

I have heard of it as the brother of a boy we know goes there. Sorry, not much else to say but I think he has EBD and not ASD. He does mon to fri boarding and the LEA pay for some and also part of a SS care package.

Thanks, vjg. It does seem to be mainly EBD.

There are NO ASD schools within 2 hours of here, unless he goes to the local private ASD school, but that is for non-verbal children and they don't do any GCSEs or anything equivalent. My son is academically very bright, so it wouldn't be appropriate, and the EBD school absolutely wouldn't either.

Eagle House group seem to have some specialist ASD schools www.eaglehousegroup.co.uk/ - not sure if they are good or not, but might be pretty pricey...

is your son primary age? I think pictor school in timperley is a good school for ASD. Seems like lots of people are after Inscape House too, but i dont know anything about that.

Thanks guys. The Eagle House places look great, but none near here.

Pictor school also looks good, and I know Inscape House well, but my son doesn't fit the academic profile in that he has extremely challenging behaviour (which Inscape House won't accept) and is of high ability, which means he doesn't meet criteria as the LA say there is no academic peer group or verbal enough peers.

Bad enough not to fit into mainstream, but there should at least be one special school in the whole of the Greater Manchester area which caters for high-functioning autism children with average-above average intelligence and challenging behaviour.

Maybe I should found one.

Have you seen Delamere Forest school. They have ASD children who do GCSE and AS level. It's in Cheshire. It is non maintained so you would have a fight to get it.

It is the school we would like my daughter to go to.

It looks great, but do they take non-Jewish children?

Yes, some of the day pupils who live more locally aren't Jewish.

They might be hard to get hold of in the next few weeks, there are a lot of festivals coming up.
IMHO it is a wonderful school but I know we will have to go to tribunal to get a place there.
My daughter has been to 2 summer camps there and loved it.
They take children from 7 to 17
