The committee that i am on wants to buy a sandpit that all the children in our Saturday club can use. At the moment the little lad in a wheelchair is unable to use the sandtable and we want to buy a new one.... I am going to ring Fledglings tomorrow but any other ideas please....???

I'd err on the side of caution if you want to put the chair in there. My friend H, age 16, went on a trip with her SN school, and they went to the beach. She showed me a photo of all of them on the beach. "How did you get the wheelchairs on/off the sand?" I ask. "With great difficulty." was the reply. Be sure to have some strong adults handy!

As for ways to do it, I can only think of a ramp, but that'd mean sand got out. Sorry I can't be of more help.

When i meant "into" i was confused... what i should have said was so that his chair can go under the edge of the sandtable and he can play with the sand that way!!

There's one here
www.handmadeplaces.co.uk/special.html
but no idea what it would cost as it's hand made. I've seen something over here that's like a raised sand table, but don't know if it would be high enough for a wheelchair as I think it's designed for NT kids to stand next to.

I found one here:
www.playforce.co.uk/
seem to have a great range, but guess you'd need to enquire about price etc.

This charity may be able to avise - as well as product info here, they have OTs who will find stuff out for you.

I dont know where to look but what about the ones they have in infant schools. They usually have one for water and one for sand? perhaps you can ask a local school.

Only other thing I thought of is adapting an ordinary table by placing a blown up paddle pool on the top (one of the two ring ones) and fill that with play sand :)

If you go for the table type make sure that it has adjustable legs - wheelchairs come in different sizes.
