Oh my goodness horrible new bus driver...

DS1 has always had lovely bus and taxi drivers. His last one retired this summer (he was 75). He was great. Loads of banter with the escorts, used to lift ds1 up to look over the fence when they arrived at school each morning. Would joke and laugh.

New one- horrible really horrible- he's just had a go at one of the (lovely) escorts in front of me. Face like a smacked arse as dh would say.

Never expected this - feel quite sad about putting ds1 on his bus. Since starting at special school 3 years ago ds1 hasn't come across anyone horrible (literally- I mean none!).

Sounds like a bad start to the new school year. Will this guy be the driver every day? Perhaps the escorts will complain about him in due course?

By contrast, my ds went off today with his escort from last year who is totally great. Does your ds have a good escort at least?

Oh escorts are lovely (there are 2) - we all exchanged 'looks'. If he carries on being rude to the escorts in front of me I will complain (can't really complain about him having a face like a smacked arse although I'd like to - miserable gitness not really being appropriate for the job I think). I may have to complain anyway as they seem to have added loads of children to the bus and it's picking ds1 up far too late - will see what happens with the timings.

I hope he'll go, the bus drivers do seem to rotate around occasionally. At the end of last year the escorts were joking that they would have to tell the new driver that lifting ds1 up to look over the fence is part of the job- I don't think they'll be doing that now.

Fortunatly ds has the same lovely escort as last year - he dragged her into the house today to see his model (ds is first pick up and they were a little early)!

Sorry to hear the new bus driver has had his happy personality "removed"!!! We had a lovely driver who is off work for a year now (hopefully will return?) and it does make for a good start to the day knowing they are in capable hands. Back to school here tomorrow and heavens only knows when they will turn up as Hampshire CC have overloaded the route - 11 now to pick up on my sons bus!

I know transport in our area regularly put an inspector on to see if all the rules etc are being adhered to, you could always ask the county office that is in charge of transport to make sure your bus is first on the list?? Imminent check needed please? If there is a noticable difference and he is polite or at least "quiet" on that particular day it could be the day to embarrass him into politeness??

Oh hope things improve. I was stuck with a driver last year (academic one just gone lol)who really wasn't bothered if I was 45 minutes late for my first lesson at college. There were only 2 of us on the bus! He'd blame his lateness on the kids he had to drop off at another school (all with SN obviously).

OTOH, after Easter we were put on a bus with 4 people from an SN school, and the driver was lovely, as was the escort who was with us. It was a laugh, and one of the girls is now a very good friend of mine (you'll have seen me mention her before, when I've asked questions on here).

Not much else to add really, just hope things change for the better for you.

He was still horrible this afternoon The escort was trying to tell me something but I wasn't sure what. Such a shame the atmosphere on the bus used to be lovely.

I'm hoping he'll leave, or have some sort of personality transplant/wake-up call. He is not the right person to be transporting severely disabled children.

dd once had a awful escourt.
a young lad who never spoke. it changed the whole atmospere on the bus and they all were crying.
the escourt she has now is a bit of a chocolate teapot, but the driver is lovely(although he is a bit to nosey at times)thanks for reminding me to tell teach not to tell hime anything.

Personality transplant took place overnight. All smiles and a 'alright mate?' as ds1 got on the bus. No complaints at ds3 rushing on to see the escorts either. Phew.

It was very busy yesterday and he was very late - must have been stress.

Thats good! Perhaps it was the drivers first day !!

Have been meaning to email you for ages as well, but am noing a 22 mile swim so am in training (22 miles over 12 weeks- not all at once!)
