Usually lurk on special needs, but have had a look around tonight. Think I will stay with the nice, friendly lot!

that is whya if you have a motarbility car, the RAC cover treats you as a priority.

MannyMoeAndJack · 24/08/2008 18:26

It's the Highway Code which states that you should get out of your car if it breaks down on the motorway, however there is the following rule:

278
Disabled drivers. If you have a disability which prevents you from following the above advice you should

  • stay in your vehicle
  • switch on your hazard warning lights
  • display a ?Help? pennant or, if you have a car or mobile telephone, contact the emergency services and be prepared to advise them of your location

Agree jimjams, anyone abducting my dd would return her pronto after she'd bitten a chunk out of their arm and pulled their entire head of hair from their scalp

jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 24/08/2008 18:59

oh does your dd do that to you whilst driving? DS1 does and it is driving me mad- I need to investigate ways to tie him up secure him

chonky · 24/08/2008 19:02

No - at 4 her arms aren't long enough. It's only a matter of time I'm sure.

MannyMoeAndJack · 24/08/2008 19:38

JJ - How about putting your ds on the other side of the car, so he's not behind you (I'm assuming from your description that he is!)? Would he tolerate such a move?

Or, er, a hair-net?

jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 24/08/2008 19:43

If he goes on the other side he reaches across and grabs my clothing so I'm driving with him strangling me. It's even worse that the scratching tbh (from a paying attention to the road POV)

We have a 7 seater so the far back seat is an option - but then he launches himself to the front and appears next to me on the passenger seat. Which is even more disconcerting!

I need to follow my own advice and find something from Crelling (although I have my doubts that anything will contain him).

MannyMoeAndJack · 24/08/2008 19:58

He certainly sounds keen to reach you! My ds has gone through phases of trying to wriggle out of his (adult) seat belt but (so long as the car is moving), he is usually a very good passenger. Is there some kind of (probably very expensive) SN car seat complete with 5-point harness? There must a solution out there - how does school deal with the problem if/when they take him on outings? (1-1 I guess?)

jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 24/08/2008 20:02

He's sat at the front on the non-driver side on the school bus. This has only started this holiday (he lurves pinching me/scratching me at the moment) so I'm not sure whether he'll carry this particular gem back to school. He knows it riles me so he finds it absolutely hilarious.

MannyMoeAndJack · 24/08/2008 20:10

Will he be distracted in the car by anything? I imagine you've probably tried all sorts already. My ds went through a phase of throwing his shoes about the car (once, one shoe hit his taxi driver on the head and he told me if he did it again, then he wouldn't be taking him to school any more ) but it was luckily short-lived and of course, easy to avoid by removing his shoes. Perhaps your ds will move onto something else soon...they like to keep us on our toes..

jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 24/08/2008 20:22

He loves the car. He likes it even more now he's found he can sit in the car (favourite activity) and pinch me (another favourite activity!)

Stopping every time he did it would work, but it's impossible to do that really. Perhaps I need to go up to the abandonned airfield and just do a session driving and stopping every time he goes for me?

MannyMoeAndJack · 24/08/2008 20:28

Well I guess that would put some time in!! But would he learn not to pinch on the airfield but then revert back once back on the road?

Gloves? Would he keep them on?

jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 24/08/2008 21:03

No chance with gloves (boxing gloves maybe ) He;s pretty good at generalising these days and its the sort of thing that works quite quickly with him. I might give it a go.....

Oh I'm having car seat trouble too. Today, on the M1 I suddenly reaslised that DD3 was not, as I thought, securely in her car seat. She was actually stood leaning over the gap between the 2 front seats in the "kate winslet/titanic" pose. She gave me a heart attack, so if you had a Toyota corrolla swerving wildly in front of you today please accept our apologies. I had to pull on to hard shoulder to fasten her back in!
