and I am strangely pleased
For some time I have been very conscious of the fact that she has a lot more problems with speech than other little ones with DS I know - then I read a post on here where someone mentioned dyspraxia (probably jj actually) so I googled it and looked into it a bit more.
It just all fell into place really.
Today I had her assessed privately by a SALT, and apparently she's got pretty bad dyspraxia in addition to low tone in her face. We're going to get a full programme to do at home and the SALT was pretty confident that we would see a reasonable improvement. She said that she felt dd2 would always have some problems with speech, but that it should get a lot better than it is at the moment.
Apparently dyspraxia is rarely diagnosed in children with DS because everything just gets lumped together under the DS diagnosis, leading to low expectations from everyone... not much of a surprise really
Things are supposedly getting better slowly - let's hope so.
