I am feeling happy as today I found out who dd's teacher will be and who her classmates will be. all in all it looks good. I thought she would be sad as the boy she really likes won't be in her class. but she is fine
I am loving the head of secondry. after all the years in primary where dd seemed to be in a class where there was no on on her level. it is such a releif to have someone making the decisions who "gets" it.

There are two classes in every year at DS2's school, so the kids get swopped round every year. He doesn't much care who he's with, although he does really like one little girl, and I think they'll try to make sure they stay together. No-one else knows the teachers for next year, but ssshhhh....I do and she's brilliant. Suspect the SENCO told me because I'm a pest and she thought it would shut me up for a while .

sorry the meeting was so disappointing re:NHS SALT TClang. Am nervously waiting for phone call from new NHS SALT after her 3rd observation of DS to see what the upshot is, and plan of action.

DS will be in upper half of the same class, same teacher, many of the same kids, so it's all looking good, it will be transition next autumn to year 1 that will be the nervewracking one (well if they don't decide to ship him off to a language unit!)

PeachyWontLieToYou · 24/06/2008 22:30

ds3 gets a grwat teacher, only worry is she is on sick and i can't be ertain she'll be back, no point begging other class as threy have a locum as well.

bit worried realy as he only started christmas and they swapped him to a new class once already to balance the groups, and since then he's lost his happy go lucky thing entirely

Sam doesnt know who he will get but iep next week. He's been a nightmare for sometime so it'll no doubt go tits up.

DS2 has a teacher wo seems ok at juniors but they forgot to tell me about the meet the teacher night.

dh is ill thugh so next term seems miles of

on the upside, found out at a school meeting today that DS's school was first m/s school in the city to get a local Inclusion ?Charter Mark or summat of that ilk (only the special schools had that status). Was nice to see that was something the head was proud of and listed amongst the rest of the school achievements.

TotalChaos · 24/06/2008 22:34

sorry you are being pissed around re:DS3's schooling, hope that things get on a more even keel next year.

DD starts a new school next year. They don't announce who the teachers are until the day before they start so I haven't been able to meet them and explain about DD's problems. Spoke to the person who assigns extra help (TA, 1to1 or whatever) yesterday and it's too late for next year but she seems really nice and reassuring (!). At least, being in France, I get a PERSON to talk to and not just a faceless LEA. (See what happens next year if they decide she needs someone for the year after). Wish her old school had requested something sooner. We're currently scraping together every penny we've got to send her two days a week to a private (English speaking) school which isn't SN BUT the teacher has masters in SN and they only have 15 kids in the class, so that's gotta help. Even better, her SALT can work with this school and might put together a social skills group for her. Apart from SALT, everything else will change. Just have to hope she's up to the challenge! Sorry to hear you're being mucked about, Peachy. Hope DH gets better soon (that's all you need, isn't it!). I guess all of us here are just fingers crossed until September! Don't even start on whether I'm going to keep sane for two months during the holidays. I love having DD home but she's hard work sometimes!! Whoops, this was another hijack post!

Ds (at special) came home and told me who his new teacher would be, and - with a little prompting - which children would be moving with him!! Quite a feat of communication! Best bit is he seems happy! His new school is soo good at transitions and managing change. So very different to previous years in ms that had a er-weak policy to sen! Bad news is the salt has still not been replaced. Ds had a month of weekly visits working with ds, (it was brilliant!) after termly assessments only for the last 4 years.
Interesting how the system is different in France Brioche. Glad your dd is happy 2shoes - and Riven you sound ?relieved or delighted?

Seuss · 25/06/2008 09:11

Ds is changing classes but the school is great and a couple of the TAs are moving to the same class so fingers crossed it won't be too traumatic for him. He has had a lot of staff changes during the couple of years he has been there and a couple of classroom moves but the change doesn't seem to affect him there like it did in mainstream...(fingers crossed, touching wood, looking for black cats....)

Kind of reassuring to hear everyone else is a bit freaked at this time of year - Good luck to you all!

cyberseraphim · 25/06/2008 09:39

DS1 is going nowhere for now - still in 3-5 aged pre school class. But DS2 - who will only be 20 months or so at the end of the summer is moving up a room at his nursery. The moving age is supposed to be 24-30 months but they want to keep him with his friends and they say he is doing so well. Nothing to do with SN but I am so proud esp as he get less attention at home than DS1 did at the same age

have to say all dd is worried about is who will feed her

DD2 starts school in September - her new teacher seems nice and the SENCO is lovely. Have yet to meet her 1-1, apparently she will meet her at the 2 visits that are scheduled next week/week after.

I am nervous, DD2 doesn't cope well with change at all and she has been at an amazing pre-school with the most wonderful staff for the last 18 months. I think I might embarrass myself and cry on her last day

I only hope her new teachers and school friends are as accepting and supportive as those at her pre-school have been.

I can't believe she is starting school - only seems 5 minutes since she was a tiny scrap of a thing fighting for her life in an incubator!

allytjd · 25/06/2008 12:24

Good news - DS2 will be in class of 17 rather than 34! this year.
Bad news - he will have same teacher as in P2. she has been at the school for @30 years and is not ver receptive to new ideas, i don't think she could be bothered with DS2 and all his'foibles' last time. I hope she will notice the progress he has made.
More good news- DS1 has hunky 25 year old male teacher this year!
They have also kept DS2 with his best pal who helps him in class .

Only two days 'til the end of term here !!!
I'm prob going to stay off mumsnet for the hols(if I can manage) so enjoy the holidays and good luck everyone for next term.

twoisplenty · 25/06/2008 12:57

Ds will have new teacher, I'm hoping she's more proactive than his current one! I won't know which children will be in his class, we'll know more after parents evening next week.

I shall be insisting the new teacher will makaton sign for my ds, and actively teach him new signs, rather than just sign rapidly at him. I can't keep up with the teachers' signing, so my ds can't possibly learn much.

He knows about 50 signs now, so it really is his main form of communication.

Three weeks till the end of term, then it will be manic around here...we're hoping to move to our new bungalow in the holidays!!! Can't wait, can't wait!

coppertop · 26/06/2008 10:13

I'd love ds1 to have the same teacher again next year but I don't think it's likely to happen. I don't really know the other KS2 teachers all that well but I can't think of any that I really wouldn't want ds1 to have.

Ds2 will be going into Yr1. He seems to like all the KS1 teachers and they all know him fairly well so he has no real preference AFAIK.

I think they find out next week where they will be going and then at some point they spend a day with their new class and teacher.
