Hi everyone, SEN mam here to a little girl on the pathway for autism.

We have been recommended an EHA and I was hoping to hear how they can support my daughter and our family?

She starts school in September, we’ve also had a bit of a difficult year in a separation with her dad, their has been a lot of post separation abuse, financial control and not great behaviours such as coercive control in the marriage and stalking and coercive control after the marriage ended. We have had to move and hide our address doing handovers in public, dad has made my life a living hell. It’s now going to court.

Will they judge me for my situation? Im so nervous. All I want is the best for my little girl.

Can anyone share their experiences? Am I being scared for no reason? I’ve seen horror stories and I’m unsure.

When I said I was open to support my health visitor seemed shocked.

What support they can help with depends on your individual circumstances and to an extent where you live and who you get.

They can help with things like DLA forms and EHCPs. In some areas, they can help you to access things e.g. OT and SALT more quickly. They can help access short breaks offer if they is anything suitable. They can help with issues at school. They can pass you on for social care support.

They can help with strategies for things like challenging behaviour or sensory issues if that is needed. Sometimes this is helpful. Sometimes it isn’t. Sometimes they offer you courses/groups/sessions - again, sometimes these are helpful and other times not.

I wouldn’t be scared.
