Concerns have been raised about my son since nursery. Initially his behaviour - he took a long time to settle and was impulsive and sometimes rude. In P1 the concerns have been around focus and the amount of adult support he needs . He's on the waiting list for ASD assessment but ADHD assessment was refused as he's 5.
He is lovely but VERY full on. At home he can't play independently, he wants us involved constantly. It is exhausting. He goes from activity to activity. He is really imaginative, makes up lots of stories and loves drawing. He can't focus for long on much, though he's watched his favourite film in the cinema which is 2 and a half hours long 3 times.
He is a perfectionist. He's hard on himself. I want to him help and I'm not sure how. He seems happy at school but his confidence is low. He had a speech delay and I think it's impacted on his learning. He doesn't have a lot of screen time and we have a router level block on YouTube as he did watch it with his older brother (just the usual kid shit) when he was younger and we don't think it was good for him.
He complains CONSTANTLY. Like constantly. Everytime we go out, everything we do, everywhere we go. His big brother doesn't want to go anywhere as a family because of it so we try to spend lots of time one on one with them both.
He goes from 0- 100 in seconds.
I feel like his report is screaming ADHD but he can't be even assessed until he's 6. I think we should try and do ADHD parenting strategies to help him both in school at home.
Any help or guidance appreciated 🙏🏻

Additional Comments:
In terms of listening skills, [Redacted] can find it difficult to focus and listen during carpet time. He doesn't like to volunteer answers during whole class discussions, but when asked directly, he will try to answer. He isn't secure in his initial sounds and hasn't retained many of the keywords taught. He is beginning to record initial sounds in words with adult support. His speech affects the sounds he can hear. He still forms letters incorrectly. His pressure is poor and he needs to practise his colouring to help with presentation of work.
Focus for Development:
To help with moving to P2, [Redacted] needs to focus and listen well. He will need to continually practise his sounds over the summer. When these are secure, he will be more able to then learn and retain his key words. Practise forming letters correctly, too.

Additional Comments:
[Redacted] is secure in his numerals to 10. He is forming some of his numbers correctly, with reversals. His touch counting can be inaccurate. He has a good understanding of measures. [Redacted] is beginning to recognise the value of coins up to 10p and is confident working with pennies. He struggles with number bonds to 10 and word problems. He is growing in confidence with addition sums but needs to continue practising locking in a number and counting on. He can read and record o'clock times with help.
Focus for Development:
Writing his numbers, practising number bonds to 10, counting on from a given number and counting 2ps will all help for next year.

[Redacted] has enjoyed visiting the ICT suite and accessing a range of apps on the iPad. He has used the Beebots during play and likes drawing on the Interactive Whiteboard.

General Comments (including strengths and interests)
[Redacted] seems to enjoy school. He has settled in well to our class and has made lots of progress since his first day! He needs to remember to listen carefully to the teacher and focus during carpet time. He loves topic work and much prefers play-based learning to written activities. He needs to remember to keep going so that he gets all his work finished. He has a fantastic imagination and it was lovely to see his big smile every morning. I wish [Redacted] every success for P2. I look forward to seeing his progress.
