Does anyone have any experience of their child having a sever anxiety attack? I don't know how else to explain it..he is in an autism class in school and was doing great all year. He goes to after school 3 days a week. On Monday he was in the after school all day as school was off. He cried to coke home and was collected. Since then he has said things that are not making sense- I want my real mammy and Daddy, where's my mammy, when can I see her- asking this to me - his mother, talking to himself and trying to process information or previous conversations. Can't go to school and just so sad. We brought him to a&e and psychiatrist said it was sensory overwhelm and shut down. Has anyone experienced this before? It's so intense and out of character. I'm so sad and scared for him. He has improved since Tuesday but I'm just bewildered that this could happen.....

Just to add my autistic DS did have a breakdown aged about 10 where he lost touch with reality, though it was different to how you describe. He did improve again. He was put on medication.
It was terrifying really.
Wishing you and your son the best OP 💐

@Specialtoday he is 7. It just came on so suddenly. It appeared to us but obviously he was not processing things and maybe they exploded. How was your son? I feel my son is mixed up in his reality...was it described as anything by a psychiatrist or psychologist? How did you get medication? Sorry for all the questions

CAMHS psychiatrist prescribed the meds.
It took a long time to get a diagnosis as such, in fact we never really got any. Magical thinking was discussed. He still has ocd today, but they never firmly diagnosed that. Much harder to get a diagnosis when you’re also autistic I think, at least that was our experience.

There is also something called pans/pandas where a child develops psych symptoms after a bacterial infection.

Wasn’t relevant in our case, but mentioning it just in case it’s relevant here.
