Nighttime bed wetting medication if in nappies during the day

Hi, would the GP consider giving medication to my son (age 12) who wears nappies full time, but night time wees are causing multiple wake ups?

I think it is unlikely. Is DS under the continence service?

Has DS tried different incontinence products?

Depending on DS’s development (and I am not asking you to post here!), some find sheath catheters work better.

Thanks for your reply, yes he is under the team but when I broached this with them today they said it’s not under their remit and to contact the GP! I find the GP so difficult as my son has high anxiety, is non-verbal and even if I could get an appointment and get him in the building, it would mean taking him out for school for a few hours. We use pads all day as he’s not yet toilet trained, but the disturbed sleep isn’t helping.

I can’t believe the continence service fobbed you off. Actually, sadly, I can. Although I doubt they would in your case, they can prescribe.

Has DS tried different brands and styles of pads, slips and incontinence pants? Different products can suit different people. Trying different products may help you find one where DS isn’t disturbed or isn’t disturbed as much.

@scoopofmintchocchipicecreamI know, a continence service that only wants to deal with issues they can solve. Part of the issue is the night time nappies don’t hold much so my son notices he’s wet and as he’s mobile he gets up and now changes the nappy. He’s refused many different night time nappies and pads. Him knowing he’s wet is progress for us and a way to nudge toilet training, but at 12 I thought the hormone should have kicked in to reduce urination on a night?
