After 2 attempts and an appeal they have changed the outcome from nothing to high rate personal care for ds1!!!!!!!

Am so thrilled as this will really make such a difference to us as a family.Really feel they turn people down willy nilly thinking they wont be bothered to appeal.
It has been a long process that has been really hard at times but worth it as such a great result!!!!

well done YMum!

Isnt it rediculous tho? how on earth can they decide that a particular child doesnt need that much help, to accepting that that same child needs help day and night??? the system is obviously not working right.

Really pleased that its sorted for you at last tho! how long has it taken in total?

onthepier · 21/06/2008 22:51

Well done, I was also awarded a pay-out earlier this year, (middle rate for my son). The form took so long to fill in I almost didn't bother, but am so glad I did! Has made a lot of difference financially.

Well done!

They did similar with my dd's claim. She went from being given nothing at all "because she's the same as any other child her age" to high rate mobility and middle rate care
I'd asked them to have another look at the evidence they had, and they changed their mind.

I know they can't just say "right, you've got x illness so you get x amount", because people with the same medical condition can be affected in different ways. Some consistency would be nice, especially if it went beyond turning most people down the first time they apply.

Dd's is up for renewal in Feb, so fingers crossed... and sorry for rambling, this really annoys me!

Misscutandstick it has taken a year in total from my first form. When it came back with nothing i was so put off by the whole thing as it took ages to do and was quite harrowing filling it in that i just accepted that i was entitled to nothing. So i left it.
I then heard that my friend who has a ds the same age and same diagnosis and ability as my ds got mid rate care and mobility!!!!!
How can they say yes to one and no to someone else.It then became a matter of principle and i filled in another form.
This was also turned down and i went straight for an appeal with an excellent letter from ds consultant.
We got the letter yesterday so much celebration!!!
I do just have a question tho...

Who out there with a dc with a dx of aspergers gets mobility rate?
I really feel ds is entitled to this as he is a complete danger to himself and others when out.He has no sense of danger and is forever climbing road signs and jumping off the verge into the road.He at 7 needs far more supervision than my 4yo.
I am going to contact the consultant tomorrow and ask what she thinks.

Don't have an aspergers dx, but congratulations on your result! DD just got DLA too (mid rate).

DS1 has ADHD and has always been awarded the lower mobility - because of impulsiveness, lack of concentration and general wandering off. Hes received DLA since he was 9/10yrs, and so far (fingers crossed) NOT had it turned down - perhaps we are just lucky. hes 15 now and we have just sent a renewal off - 4wks ago but only just had letter saying they have received it, for when hes 16. will let you know how it goes.

misscutandstick · 22/06/2008 10:34

FOrgot to mention, its the second renewal. So far they have always awarded for 2yrs, then a renewal is needed. Is that average - have other people found the same thing?
