Preparing autistic daughter for periods?

I’m pretty sure my 8 year old DD with ASD is starting to show signs of early puberty, she has recently started to smell of sweat slightly and has developed breast buds. I am just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for preparing her for when she gets her periods (I know it maybe a while away yet) but are there any books etc people can recommend?

Depending on how DD’s needs present, Usborne’s book on puberty might be helpful. Down’s Syndrome Scotland do free easy read puberty booklets called Let’s Talk About Puberty and Let’s Talk About Periods. Obviously DD doesn’t have DS but you may still find the resources helpful. Books Beyond Words do a picture book about periods called Susan’s Growing Up too.

Lots of autistic girls find period pants easier to cope with. Different brands can feel different.

My dd started hers at age 8 last year. As she's always been very 'velcro' with me she has always been aware of my periods. I was worried because underwear had been a big issue for her, but as soon as she started we got her period underwear and she was fine with them. She prefers the shorts style ones for heavier days.
The only slight issue we have is that she insists on wearing them every day now, just in case she starts to bleed. Luckily we have an M&S outlet near us that always have size 6 period underwear in and they fit her fine.
She is six months in now and still fairly light, but is starting to get light cramps so we keep calpol on hand.
At school she has been very matter of fact and just tells the teachers she is on her period and needs to go to the bathroom when needed!

@ChasingMoreSleep brilliant thank you so much ☺️

@koalab fab thank you, I would definitely get the pants as they will be easier for her to deal with too 😊
