At what age did you stop using baby changing rooms?

Hi all,

my DS has CP and is still using nappies all the time. He's 5 now and although I still occasionally use baby changing rooms, I'm beginning to feel a bit uncomfortable about it. He doesn't seem at all bothered by using the baby rooms, but I'm worried it may bother him being changed amongst babies. I also get funny looks from other mum's as I'm changing him. Our local shopping mall has facilities for changing SN kids, but other than that I've never seen it anywhere else (it's hard enough finding baby rooms TBH). I used to change him in the car a lot, but he's getting too big for that now.
When did you stop using baby changing rooms, and how do you manange now?

Thanks for the reply 2shoes. That's a goos idea. We're renewing our motability car next year and I've been thinking about MPV's as I'm not sure what equipment he'll need by then, but hadn't thought about the advantages of nappy changing space. We have an Astra and it's a bit of a squeeze

jajoom, this is something that worries me aswell. My child is still in nappies and I have used the boot, behind a bush, baby changing but as she is getting older I need to respect her privacy now and I am at a loss too. You would think there would be something wouldnt you?

Sadly, changing facilities for older SN kids/adults are few and far between. My ds is doubly incontinent, he is 5yrs old but his height/weight make him more like 7/8yrs old. We can only change him on the floor (not great on a wet day), in the car (is a squeeze) or at home.

Fledglings do big padded things to lie on - which could be used on the floor of a disabled toilet (which are often grim I know).

Stil use the, dd 7 but v small.

Ryobi · 18/06/2008 19:24

MannyMoeAndJack · 18/06/2008 19:26

Fledglings are fab

We try to use the ones that are a family bathroom with a toilet and a changing pad. For the most part, DS1 (4 1/2) holds it in for a few hours while we're out, anyhow. He decided he hated being changed out in public over a year ago.

Romy7, thanks for highlighting this campaign, I'll start a thread with a link to its website so that it won't be 'buried' in here!
