Hi all

I have a ds with aspergers whose behaviour has changed a lot recently. ie difficult behaviour a lot more often than previously

I would really appreciate it if you could share your methods on how to calm a child down when all they seem to want to do is kick off

DS was frightening dd by threatening to eat her, shouting, screaming, bouncing off the walls, abusive language, refusing to get undressed etc etc

What should I have done?
How do you cope when you are also trying to do other things?

TIA

Wait for the full moon to pass

DS1 is playing the lunatic role well tonight.

Ds is also bouncing off the walls! We tend to use time out a lot - he ends up calming down (a bit) alone in his room and we get the space to do whatever it is needs doing.

Is he jimjams? That is making me feel a little better - how do you cope with yours when he kicks off?

Run

If he's really bad I shove him in his room for a short while. BUt he's bonkers tonight so I'm keeping away (every time I go nearby he grabs me and crushes me and it hurts- he's not being aggressive just sensory seeking) So I'm leaving him to repeatedly jump off his windowsill. Tonight is classic just before the full moon type behaviour though (when is the full moon?)

Its tommorow. I wondered why he had been such a pain the last few days - it makes sense now.

Ahhh tomorrow. I can expect no sleep tonight then (but hopefully he'll be back to 'normal' tomorrow).

The moon can affect tidal waves - so does it affect fluid levels (?) in the brain?

dustystar · 17/06/2008 20:48

I think thats the theory cyber. I think thats where the word lunatic comes from My Mum is a Senco and she says lots of her kids at school go wild every full moon.

Yurtgirl · 17/06/2008 20:48

My problem is that my two currently share a room. So there is no where for ds to go to be loopy.

And if I did shut him in a room he would come out! If I lock the door he would attack it in an attempt to get out

arghhhhhhhhh

According to the biomed lists it's a sign of parasites. The worms come out to play at full moon

dustystar · 17/06/2008 20:51

Hmm thats a hard one. Ds doesn't like to be sent to his room for timeout but he knows that he will feel better after so usually stays for at least a couple of mins. Is there anyway he could have a room of his own?

Parasites???

getbackinyouryurtjimjams · 17/06/2008 20:56

scroll down to parasites here

Is it really full moon tonight? My friend's NT 4 year old was a bit off the wall this afternoon. Could this be the explanation?

dustystar · 17/06/2008 20:59

Well ds fits the behavioural symptoms but not really the physical ones so maybe not parasites for him
