Hi I'm Lisa! Currently living in Groton, CT. But born and grew up in Oldham.

I have Ethan 4 and Emily 2 and I'm 7 months pregnant with another little boy.

Ethan suffers from SPD (Sensory Processing Disorder) and a pediatric Feeding disorder. His current diet is Pediasure which is thickened using thick-it, heavy whipping cream and yogurt mixed in with vitamin's with Iron.

He was breastfed until he was 3 because I was determined to to keep feeding tubes out of him. He was born in Hawaii and help out their was very slow as no one had never dealt with a child like him before.

We are now been seen at Hasbro's children's hospital in Rhode Island by the Pediatric feeding team. We are finally making progress even though it is slow. We are now also being seen by an OT for SPD. They are hoping once the sensory issues have been dealt with and he has learned to deal with them the feeding will come. Their are a few choice foods he will lick, celery, tortilla chips, noodles and green beans. He has no idea how to chew. The only thing he will bite down into is the celery but if any falls into his mouth he freaks out.

From being born he would scream every time we put him in his car seat, nothing would calm him. Once the car seat was turned around at 1 he was fine. From being born until he turned 18 months he would scream every time we tried bathing him. It was a nightmare. He reached every developmental milestones late, but always got their in the end. He had a major problem with sand and grass and would only walk on it if he had shoes or socks on. These things he is now fine with. He is fine in the bath until washing time comes, then he goes mad if he gets water on his face.

He was over the age of 2 before we were able to brush his teeth regular. Now he is much better bust still gags now and again.

He does have poor muscle tone and doesn't run, jump and play like other children his age do. His two year old sister is already by-passing him in these things. He is improving all the time though. He has now learned to jump properly. His running is also improving lots. He is very wary of busy places and other children. But recently is doing very, very well and seems to be improving all the time.

I would love to chat to other mums who have kids with similar issues.

Sounds like you're doing a great job! Welcome to mumsnet

Welcome!

Both of my boys have a plethora of sensory issues but mostly the other way with a mixture of undersensitive and sensory seeking aspects. I cannot put celery in my mouth without gagging and spitting it out, though, but that's because I think it tastes vile! :P

Thanks everyone.

My Mum bought him a trampoline a few months back and him and his sister love it.

Trampolines are great - best thing we ever bought!

We also bought him one of those collapsible tunnels for him to crawl though. Took him a while to have a turn, but now he goes through it very quick. I've also caught him hanging it off the sofa and trying to get his sister to slide down it.
